Hi,
I purchased a new build a few weeks ago which has a cable running from a switch near the back door to a small round enclosure on the outside back wall. Agent told me it's so I can fit an outdoor light if I want to.
Bought a light and removed the enclosure outside revealing about a meter...
I could use some help and advice for this setup in a new house. No clue about electrics.. just want to identify if this is safe or a bodge job (I didn't do it).
The loft has been converted and has the wiring as follows...
It's at the end of wire, which I believe is called a 'spur'.
Wire up from...
HI All
Need some advice. I had an electrician professionally install power to my garage. Here is how he did it.
Spurred off a socket on the ring main to a 13A fused switch. Then through the wall to a water proof junction box on other side of wall. Then waterproof cable along fence into garage...
Hi,
I have a standard single ceiling light that I wish to convert to a set of three light fittings, physically right next to each other and controlled by the same switch.
What is the correct (and preferably easiest) way to connect this up?
Kind wishes - Patrick
Hi. I am wanting to install a regular single 13A socket (with RCD protection) near my boiler to power a Raspberry Pi, which draws comfortably less than 1A.
The boiler is on its own dedicated circuit protected by a 5A MCB at the CU and a 3A fused double-pole isolation switch next to the boiler...
Hi,
I want to run a heated towel rail and a shower pump from the ring main.
I've had to open up the floor in the en-suite bathroom to run the pipework and can see cables running through the joists.
Obviously I need to confirm that these are indeed cables for the ring main but once that's done...
Hello All
I found a double kitchen socket that is simply "teed" into an existing 30A ring main. It was probably put in in the 1980s.
I have three questions about it:
1/ Would that have been ok back then and if so would I have to remedy this to pass a landlord safety check? (I'm not a big...
Hi everyone,
I’m about to build some cupboards, (tomorrow!) but need to ensure that a suitable cable is left behind them and threaded through the adjacent wall for a socket that I want fitted in the future - on the other side of that wall. (Work is happening in many stages). I’m not attempting...
Hi everyone.
I basically wanted to check to see if what I propose is correct.
I had an electrician come round (pre covid) to install power to my garage (Detached from house). This is the setup he used.
Spur off socket on ring main a short distance to a 13A switched FCU
Cable from the FCU...
Hi all,
I am looking to add 2 spurs off a ring main socket and the 1st is a 3 gang socket with a 13A fuse (see pic). The 2nd will be 2 gang. Will I still require a seperate FCU or will the 3 gang socket fuse cover this requirement? I beleive it will but just want confirmation. Thanks.
Hello I hope you are well, I have a 6mm socket radial with two sockets on the circuit, the circuit Protected by a 32A MCB is it okay to spur clipped direct to one double socket, thanks Andi
Evening all
Got a query excuse me if not seeing the simple logic. On reading regs book it states can install one unfused spur off ring in 2.5 but if more sockets required need to first wire through a fused spur. My question is, is this all because of possibility of overloading one leg of the...
I’m after some clarification please. I have wall mounted the TV and want to install a double socket behind it. I planned on taking a spur from the socket as shown in the photo (bottom right) running the 2.5mm T&E cable in the safe zone to behind the TV. The cable run is 2.4metres and the new...
Hi All,
I've recently installed supply for hot tub. 6mm SWA, 32A isolator on 40a RCBO. Now client wants a socket around hot tub area for using TV only. I was thinking to fit IP66 socket from isolator switch via 3A fuse spure. Isolator switch is over 2M away from hot tub. This is the easiest...
Morning all.
I am replacing a 1g socket, with a 2g socket. Because I cant (cant be bothered :tearsofjoy:) make the hole in the wall bigger, I am going to make it surface mounted.
The cables are too short, and they do no stretch the extra distance to cover the backbox. Ive been told about these...
Hi. First post!
I have a socket on a ring which currently is occupied by a plug which operates my boiler. I would like to use this socket for something else.
My idea is to spur off this (I've checked this isn't already a spur) to a 13amp FCU which my boiler would be wired into (no need for...
Hello im new here, trainee electrician
To the point...
power in the shed...
The closest supply to spur of is an external socket..i cannot run a new feed from the cu as the house floor is tiled.
My plan was to spur of the external socket using 2.5 armoured cable...take it to a 13a fused spur in...
I’ve had a water feature installed in my garden, I’ve ran an swa from the garage cu to the water feature area and connected to the pumps rubber flex (wiska box and magic gel used). Although the connections are good, if there is a fault the rcd in the house will trip out. My question is could I...
Hello All
Possibly a silly question - can I add a 'spur' to a ring circuit at it's MCB in the CU, rather than cutting into the ring itself? I want to do this to add a power line adaptor to extend wifi coverage.
Many thanks.
