Hi guys,
Can any one tell me (incase I missed something) if this doesnt keep within 17th Regs.
I'm doing this to save on wire in my own home, not a customers. It's for lighting in the loft, 2 seperate rooms to be controlled by 1 switch as soon as you enter loft.
Taking 6A from CU in 1.5mm to...
Hello,
i am new to the electrical world and have been asked to add a few extra sockets in a house, and also fit a new exterior light where there is already and old and broken one. What are the regulations involved with doing this? its an old 16th edition fuse board with no RCD's just a main...
I have a last minute council rewire to do starting Friday, I need marked engraved fuse spurs (Washer, Boiler, Fridge, Freezer, Etc..)
My usual wholesaler can get hager ones at a cost of £9 + Vat. Where do you guys get them from and at what cost ?
I have been asked to add 2 fused spurs supplying under unit dishwaher and washing machine to an existing kitchen ring. The fuse board has 3036 wire fuses and has a large 100ma RCD protecting it. TN-c-s system, earthing and bonding are fine. Is it okay to add these spurs or do I somehow have to...
Hi Everyone
I was just wondering if anyone knew more about maximum zs readingsa for rcbos if say you have 1. a type C 16AMP bs 61009 rcbo 30ma is the maximum zs 0.92ohm OR IS IT 1667ohm 2. if the circuit came straight from db ran to an rcd spur 30ma protected by a bs 60898 B 16 amp mcb which...
Evening all I was just wondering if 30ma rcd spurs broke the neutral conductor in the event of an earth fault or is it just the line that becomes isolated. cheers
Back to basics here, but just want to check I'm not going mad. Was installing a circuit for a boiler yesterday on a new build (it had been accidentally omitted apparently) , and I noticed there was another 'spark' working in the living room. I idled over and asked what he was up to. He said...
Hi all,
In my house I have a ring main which covers two floors, from which I have created two spurs with 2.5mm cable.
I am drawing 3000W on each spur and on the ring sockets probably around 500w making a total of 6500w.
Do you think this is dangerous as it is exceeding the 24A rating on 2.5mm...
hello.
jut a quick q on grid switches and what your ways to install them are..
eg. using 20A DP switches with a fuse next to it or just install a FCU to hard wire applience in, there for not fusing at the grid.
would you run it in 4mm, 2.5mm or 6mm radial or would you run it of the ring...
Morning gang, was wondering the best way to approach wiring an extension in the sense that taking an fcu spur off of the ring for a double socket fine if he wants another socket whats best way to do? He's a bit tight for a new circuit because it'll mean another cu so for the sake of a couple of...
Im currently studying electrical and im up to dead tests.
ive reached continuity of ring final circuit on my scenario cd , in therory i understand the procedure and what to do but im a little un sure on finding the mid point on the sockets .
please can sombody go threw it step by step in...
Hi I need some unstitched fused spurs that are to be insalled in a challenging location that has a history of misuse and vandalism.
Has anyone come across any spurs that the fuse cannot be easily removed or a lockable enclosure to fit a sput into.
many thanks,
i am considering starting an av install in the front room. on the wall i am considering i have a socket, which i would like to run a quantity of fused spurs off. these would be for the component parts if the install. i do not want a selection of double sockets each with a plug in, as i feel this...
Just been to neighbours house because he said cooker was not working. Turns out the fan oven was fed via a fused spur of what appeared to be the kitchen ring. However couldn't get continuity between feeds so is a radial on 32A breaker or spur feeding spur. (neutral on load side of spur had...
I have a query around installing a socket outlet spur off a final ring circuit in a domestic installation which isn’t protected by any RCD’s at the DB. My understanding is that to comply with the current regulation the cable installed in the wall would need to be in the prescribe zones (which it...
Hey guys I was hoping you guys could clear some issue up for me ive been asked to snag one of our properties that has be refurbed recently but not being a tester my rules and regs knowledge is a bit lacking.
So basically its all about spurs for isolation

Hi All,
I was working for an Access Control company for about 18 months and was told that my Irish Electrical Qualification was sufficient for me to do basic things like wiring spurs etc.
I have recently started my own business doing CCTV,Alarms etc. I have found conflicting info about whether...
hi guys quick question, got sent out to a job today to connect in sockets that are lying on the floor in dado trunking for office computers etc, the whole room is wire in a ring protected by a 32a mcb to 5 seperate 20amp double pole switches, these switches feed about 5 or 6 sockets each on a...
This is something I have been racking my brain over for ages and its doing my head in!!
Please could someone explain why you are only allowed to have one unfused spur per socket on a RFC?
I'll explain a little why I'm confused.
A ring main is allowed as many sockets as you like on the...
I am pricing to wire a kitchen and intend to feed it with one ring circuit.
The client is looking for 5 x twin skts. above worktop level, and as many as 6 x dedicated appliance sockets which he would like switched through a grid system above worktop level.
Chapter 7.2.2 (para 3) in the OSG...
