Hi all

I've have my first chance as a "company" to price for a job.
its a 10bed house converted all into self sufficient flats..
fire alarm + intercom throughout ...18 extractor fans to wire/core drill

any ideas roughly the cost of this job?

I have worked it out to cost to around 12-13k supply n fit

Is to much or to less or around about right?

i find pricing very tricky , and have no1 to ask around me

any help would be appreciated.

Just to confirm in case I'm reading this wrong, there's an RCBO at the source of each flat's T&E feeder? What protective devices are actually in each flat? Cheers Daz

Ideally you dont want the cable to the flat(s) protected by an RCD/RCBO as if pops the tenants have to leave the flat/bedsit and go to wherever it is! Plus all circuits in the flat are then on the 1 RCD/RCBO. Preferably you should be designing so that the individual flats have their own consumer unit with RCBO/RCD protection inside and not before. (Along with their own bonding to any gas/water)

As far as Im aware you cant get a time-delayed 30mA RCD to offer discrimination. That means you will need to find an alternative method of protecting your cable run from the 'head' to the flat CCU so you dont need an RCD (i.e. protect it in metal conduit, surface mount it trunking, SWA etc .....). You will also need a 'landlords' fuse for the cable protection itself.

As for the size (63A) most full sized houses dont require this so I wouldnt have though you would need this much to accomodate potential bedsit expansion?.

But at the end of the day you are the man on the ground who understands whats needed. An more importantly you are signing it off as the designer ..... and its good advise from above, speak to your provider to see if what you are proposing is acceptable. They are taking a fortune from you each year so make them earn it!!

Mcbs in 4way consumer units.. Is the idea! Or I'll just have 1 RCBO in each room for sockets which would be better incase of tripping fault caused by plug in appliance not sure yet?
I wanna state I'm new and all ears I don't think I know it all

Im interested to hear what you have to say

I have told you, ring your scheme providor or read the BGB, then come back and tell us what they said. Then we can take it from there. How do you expect to learn if you just want other peoples ideas, all the information is available to you away from the forum. #

How do you think people managed before the internet?

Dear oh dear, oh dear!! How about contacting the training centre you did your 5 week course at and ask them for a bit of guidance. After all you have paid a lot of money to them!!

Yes point taken on tripping issue.. That did cross my mind. If I bond the main gas and water incomer at source + plus protect sockets via RCBO will I still need to bond each room?

i will look into "landlord fuse" as I'm unaware of that

they are quite big rooms... The client would like the capability of a cooker & electrical shower at some point. hence why there will be a 63 amp supply.

I'm getting worried I'm gonna balls it up now!! Haha
