Hi, just left a job which goin back to tomoz but as was leavin the customer asked I could look at her tiolet light so did quick and it was ya simple one way sw, at the light there was a twin and at sw a twin but when the light sw is off there is no power on either core at sw but wen u sw it on yes the light comes on and one of the cores at sw is then live, I belled from sw to light and the black from the sw goes up to N at light but the live don't, so obv they sent N to sw which is serving no purpose but the live don't bell through so obv assuming there is a jb somewhere but don't know if I bein thick but for some reason can't think why u only gettin power to sw wen u turn it on and not perm feed at it with sw wire out, sorry if u lost the story abit after how much iv typed dwn any help would be great, I pretty sure it simple but I must be brain dead

You willl need to find the JB, flickering could be due to a loose connection, but it also sound like cross polarity switch in the neutral conductor.

You are getting 0volts at live and 170volts at N, (Do you mean switch wire?) it's baffling, not really think back to your college days the lamp is a resistor which will drop voltage

Yes I know it is baffling and yes I suppose the only way I can figure it out is by looking at the jb, thank you, I'm assuming they have connected the N and L the wrong way round or something along those lines

It's most likely, that the switch wire is just connected incorrectly at the rose. All taht is prequired probablly is for the wires to be swopped round.

Could be a loose connection in the switched neutral, possibly in the JB, so I suppose your first port of call would be to find said JB and test from there....

But my main concern is the bitchiness of some of the posts on this thread.
Yes text speak makes things difficult to understand, but there's no need to keep going on about it - after the first couple of tellings-off it becomes tedious, and can provoke a bad vibe throughout the entire forum.

This has caused problems before, incurred referrals, and rightfully the mods take a dim view of this kind of activity.

This has now got to the stage where personal comments have been made against each other. Let's calm it down, we had enough of this over the past week.

Hey look, post 57 on a bog light. Any more? :):):)

Can't help but think that this thread would have been a lot clearer and shorter if people were a bit more precise particularly when talking about voltage ie "voltage between L/N or N/CPC etc", rather than saying there was or wasn't voltage.
