Morning guys,

Just had a phone call of a company. Who do PIR in large
Industrial premise. Wanted to know how many I can do in a day.and he said he has one guy who can do 30 to 40!!! "can you do the same" I said not a chance he can't be doing any inspecting. He's answer was "well he starts at 6am and finishes at 10 pm. And when I said no thanks. He then said what about PAT testing. We have guys doing 350 per day can you match it. I said how much are you paying them he said 40p an item.
Is it me or is this a joke. Is someone trying to wind me up on a Friday :banghead::banghead:

I used to get ÂŁ25 per circuit
Even now in difficult times, still get between ÂŁ10 - ÂŁ15 per circuit
20 circuits per day is a good average, and doing the job correctly, not just a couple of live zs readings, and 1 ze, and make the rest up!

Having took on a few testers in my time, even found a few on here, who do a bit of work for me now. The best story I have heard is a fella who worked for one of the biggest cowboy company's around is, he got shipped out to the Isle of Man for a 3 week testing job, was there for 2 days, left in hand with photocopied db schedules, claimed the 3 weeks hotel accomodation again photocopied receipts. Claimed a Gizillion circuits and the only way he got found out was that the compnay investigated why his fuel car had been used in Kent, turn's out the greedy Bxxxxxd was filling his own car up. More front than Blackpool.

30 to 40 a day at ÂŁ100 each ÂŁ3000 to ÂŁ4000 a day get real
Must mean circuits at around ÂŁ5 per circuit ÂŁ 200 a day seems reasonable
PAT testing 350 a day does that include formal visual inspection I expect not
at 2minutes per item that's 700 minutes or 11.5 hours none stop that must be taking the P***. for 350 x 40p ÂŁ140 a day tell em shove it where the sun don't shine

trust me i have no intention working for any of these scams, i have no idea where they got my number. they just wasted 5mins of my life taking sxxx i happy doing what i do whether i earn ÂŁ200 a day or ÂŁ20 aday.

can you Imagen working 6am to 10pm everyday no family life. no beer(unless you put it in your tea flask) and no footy. for the sake of 200 aday, but there is people doing it. my personal view, is if things are that bad, that your taking risk everyday in a job that your working 15 hour days, then i think its time to change carers:drummer:

Last company I was working for expected 76 circuits a day! Didn't last too long as wasn't happy with their method of 'testing/ writing'
Now working for a more honest company, pir's I would get maybe twenty to thirty circuits done on a good day, was at a job on monday with 42 circuits, took me two full days and the owner was quite bemused as the last firm who carried out the previous pir took less than two hours

Well I honest would not sign off test certs that have not been carried out properly as the implications could be catastrophic, you will be held accountable if there is a fire / death etc its not worth it!

Just read a copy of the September issue of Professional Electrician and on page 31 "Getting Peed off ? and Part P that does not exist up here is getting a bashing but at the same time what seems to be coming through loud and clear is that people are saying why am I paying ÂŁ500 pa to be registered but feel it is a waste of time because the registration companies are more interested in collecting subs rather than police the industry but enough said we have had this conversation before so as I said before 30 40 PIRs a day yep no problem pile them in because it is going to take someones death to get this nonsense sorted out

my company does 3 circuits an hour per person to do a proper inspection and thats based on 15% inspection increasing obviously if there are any faults,do you mean 30-40 periodic inspection reports on individual pieces of equipment? i assume so i suppose it could be possible given the hours you stated but i wouldnt be happy with the reports if i was the customer because the spark is probably just taking the covers off the db writing the information and just flimping the test results

I reckon at that rate you'd have just enough time to drive up to the property, shake a stick at it, then drive to the next one. You could probably do it if you shook the stick at it as you were driving past, so yes, a drive-by "PIR".

It sounds like this is a case of the person in the office not knowing what they're talking about.

i usually charge half a day for a domestic PIR, usually between 6 and 12 circuits. thats complete testing and a good inspection with 10% of accessories checked. although do not enter loft or lifet floorboards, unless i have to disconnect a TV booster for IR testing!

is that not about right?

Here is a good one. Cinema 200+ circuits and pat testing done in aday by 2 "engineers"sum total was 4 circuits on a photocopy with IR values of o.oomeg on them.I got the fine job of finding out why these circuits were 0 meg ohm. Took me more than a day I can tell u. Needless to say said outfit were bust a year later.clowns. Aquick guide is 3 hours for a domestic flat 4 for a standard 3 bed house with no faults IMO .kinda tells tale in itself no?
