I only ask because there is some useful bits printed in the New OSG which may be useful, if anyone has seen these information snippets it would be nice to see your thoughts, only if you can be bothered that is.

Discuss AFDDs and SPDs has anyone read up on these things yet? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net
Yes they's doThey's work on the things plugged into them though
Yes they's do
That's an easy one to rectify.I have just read this reply by a member on the IET forum. I thought it was quite good. It is in relation to the 'recommendation' that we fit AFDD's.
"It's the age old problem of when does a recommendation take on the authority of a regulation. On paper it doesn't BUT accepted recommendations soon form best or accepted practice and then you have the issue that if you choose not to follow the recommendation you may find yourself arguing why your judgement is better than that of the learned body who wrote the recommendation. We all know recommendations are often poorly constructed or inappropriate but just try and convince a judge of that!
The very fact it gets to a legal argument is a good indication something went wrong with someone's judgement! "

Pass the buck. Tell customer what is recommended. Tell them why. Make it clear it's a recommendation only.
And when they say no( which they will) write on report or cert customer decided against blah blah blah....
Easy
Catch 22, prices won't drop until we start buying them...From a purely domestic set of circumstances, if one accepts the recommendation AND also that the regulation actually applies to a domestic dwelling, I think you going to be hard pushed to find one of the regular manufactures providing any suitable CU and AFDD's, apart from some bespoke product. Which will, take weeks/months to obtain and come with a high price tag.
This is going to take some time to filter down the food chain.

The thread mentioned have you read up on SPDDs and AFDDs seems many people are assuming the worst case scenario. Most things are 'easy', if you take morals out of the equation.

As far as SPDDs are concerned it laid out in Regulation 443.4 and in the OSG 3.7.2.1 "Where SPDDs may not be required, this is laid out in table 443.2 of BS 7671 :2018 in precis it states "For a single dwelling where the total value of the installation and equipment therein, does justify such protection and the consequential losses are tolerable"
As for AFDDs there are as we know 3 types all these types are mentioned in the first post I believe, so to try and fob the Customer off, with regards to SPDDs and enter this on a certificate is wrong in my book, any questions just quote the Regulation number, AFDDs as we know are a recommendation at present.
Have you read the Regulations as in the above post #69Discuss the pros and cons of RCBO's, SPD's and AFFD's with the customer. If they decline, write up appropriate risk assessment and ask them to sign. If they decline write "Customer declined to sign" in the signature section.
Where is this post 69 of which we speak?Have you read the Regulations as in the above post #69
