I only ask because there is some useful bits printed in the New OSG which may be useful, if anyone has seen these information snippets it would be nice to see your thoughts, only if you can be bothered that is.

The thread mentioned have you read up on SPDDs and AFDDs seems many people are assuming the worst case scenario.
As far as SPDDs are concerned it laid out in Regulation 443.4 and in the OSG 3.7.2.1 "Where SPDDs may not be required, this is laid out in table 443.2 of BS 7671 :2018 in precis it states "For a single dwelling where the total value of the installation and equipment therein, does justify such protection and the consequential losses are tolerable"
As for AFDDs there are as we know 3 types all these types are mentioned in the first post I believe, so to try and fob the Customer off, with regards to SPDDs and enter this on a certificate is wrong in my book, any questions just quote the Regulation number, AFDDs as we know are a recommendation at present.
Sincere Apologies Mate this one I'm having a bad day today, quite where 69 came from is unexplained, must have been thinking of something else, sorry again for the confusion.

Have you read the Regulations as in the above post #69
Where is this post 69 of which we speak?

Hi Pete, no problem, I do worse at times

Hello chaps, its been a long while since I have visited this font of knowledge, life has been busy and I'm still in the game and just done the 18th and have the geek books, what i took away from the 3 day course ( Because I love the 3 day pain ) is the system is pushing a shed load more pain on to us, AFDDS are not mandatory, but again under certain conditions you should do a risk assessment and advise the customer accordingly, the SPD's are a bit of a constipation to me, UNLESS you detail a risk assessment as to why not to fit them you could be in the Brown stuff...Like many others I am head scratching and speaking to reps...the PE mag had some good write ups on it for sure....Its a bit murky for sure and looks like a small CU or dis board is a thing of the past, if i add a new circuit arrangement looks like a new small CU and a SPD well at least on my commercial work I will let the defined scope CPS 7 ww chew that over lol!

10: does it have a thatched roof fit? yes/no
20: if yes fit an AFDD
30: if no go to post 1

Please correct syntax as appropriate. Maybe a flow chart would be more appropriate - with client decision boxes and "read appropriate reg." boxes. Could be a fun exercise for someone!

Here you go! (Good article on SPD's with flow chart page 3)

Re SPD : I'm reading up Calculated Risk Level in BBB and for semi rural domestic installations surge protection now seems mandatory. Oh boy are we going to be popular.
