Some customers, and a few sparkies, should be under Medical Supervision.

49 and 10/12ths. Started as a Heavy goods mechanic in 79 did apprenticeship. Carried this on in Army as an A mech. Left army and worked in various industrial workshop setups where " jack of all trades" seemed to be the norm! Finally started working for a company 14 years ago who funded my 2330 to level 3, nvq and 2382 whilst working on commercial and industrial electrics! So I am dual traded apparently! And I am now emigrating to Queensland as a company sponsored deal! In the words of Joe Walsh..."Life's been good to me so far"!

Will have to own up. left school just after Tel not long after the great plague and started a Gong farmers apprenticeship at 16 while Tel had already moved onto a Knocker upper.

I managed to do that for 20 yrs until my health gave out on me and I went back to college to do an intensive course to graduate as a Whipping boy. Tel had moved onto a Fuller then has with the advent of alarm clocks he was made redundant

I managed to reach the giddy heights of main whipping boy after 17 years and was ready to retire when by a freak of nature I moved into the lucrative market of toshing................ this was short lived and so after all these years decided to move down the ladder to it's lowest rung and re-train as a sparks.

I managed to enroll in the Trev & Geordie Technial school of excellence, or to give it is shorten name, the Rabi Arms in Hartleppol

I decided to enroll in the most technical high intensive course they offer, "if you have 5 minutes we can go into a corner and I'll teach you everything I know", it was expensive by today's standards, a packet of woodbines, a years feed for the whippet and relining of the flat cap but well worth it

Finally I now find myself a full fledge sparks, I just wish I had done it sooner. I started when I was 57 234 day 11 hours and 17 seconds and now at 57 234 days 11 hours and 38 seconds I arrived. Thank you Trev and Geordie

I'm 53 with 36 on the tools.

The running totals after 38 sparks (had to estimate some ages) so far are:
Average age: 41 yrs
Average experience 21.5 yrs
of those that responded, total experience this website can offer is 818 years

I have not double checked the figures. So if anyone has less of a life than I have they are welcome to do so

61, made redundant 1yr ago. Most of my time since 1967 spent as a maintenance leccie. The company that made me redundant (GSK) paid to get me a bit of training as part of redundancy settlement. So now got 17th Edition and 2391 Inspection and Testing but will probably not get the opportunity to use them (little experience in domestic/commercial and dodgy knees !)
Did not realise till joining this forum, the amount of regulations knowledge required,certification knowledge required, Part pee, red tape,etc,etc, to work in the domestic/commercial sectors.

With that sort of experience you should offer your advice more often KAS1, love that statement man and boy

Aged 44. Left school and joined a YTS scheme in 1984 doing electronics. The got a job in 1985 doing panel wiring and then moved on to being a test a quality controller. I am now at another company as an electrical deign engineer.
I never did an apprenticeship.

56, and knackered.....
Started out at 14 and discovered what a potential difference was.
School thought that I was too bright to become a mere sparks and so went down the academic route for a while. Got a bucket load of qualifications and been full time in the electrical/electronics industry since 1978. with a short break to become an artist of one form or another....
