I'm just finishing my NVQ Level 3 and also have 2330 level 2 and 3 along with 17th edition wiring regs and 4 years site experiance( i can only get a reference for 2 and a half years though) but ive never actually been on an apprentice will the JIB give me a Electrician ECS or do i need to do anything else? ive checked there website and it mentions apprenticeships or equivalent so im not to sure.

Cheers

Once you have completed NVQ3 , you will be graded as an electrician with the JIB (providing having 2 years post-qualified experience) and somebody who can sponsor you (eg;employer)

If you intend to work for yourself and enrole on a scheme with an approved body. you will need to by doing or completed and passed your 2391.
If not go work for a company that has it!

thats why i said to work for another company is fine and you can join either scheme but to work for yourself under those schemes you must hold your 2391 other wise you cannot test off your electrical work which is against the law.

Im not disagreeing with you as i dont know the legality of it and whether what he was doing was illegal or not, but i worked for a guy who was running his own company fully registered with the NICEIC siging off jobs etc and he didnt have the 2391 he was a sole trader i worked for him for two years or so

You do not need the 2391 to sign off your own work. You dont need 2391 to join Elecsa neither. You just need to show your compotant at it. And I think NICEIC say you need to do it within 12 months of joining them. Not sure about Napit though.

Another NICEIC member with no 2391 here and self employed no mention from my assessor that i need to do it either maybe if i applied for approved status then maybe i haven't looked into it! NAPIT wanted me to have it within 12 months. I am time served NVQ 3 qualified and hold my 2392 which i did to re aquaint myself with testing after a period out of the industry.

quoting the NICEIC 'Guide to Registration - Domestic Installer Scheme' information sheet 2

Proposed Qualified Supervisor qualifications
For those businesses applying for registration, it is a
requirement that the proposed Qualified Supervisor
satisfies the training requirements for registration. The
minimum technical qualification required is City and
Guilds 2382 level or equivalent - refer to information
sheet 4 regarding conditional registration.
Acceptable alternatives for the NICEIC scheme are:
• NICEIC Domestic Installers Scheme Qualification
(17th Edition);
• VRQ Level 2 Certificate for Domestic
Electrical Installers; (17th Edition).
• City and Guilds 2382 (17th Edition) Certificate;
• NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation
Work awarded in 2009 or later;
• SCOTVEC National Certificate in Electrical installation;
(awarded 2009 onwards).
• City and Guilds 2330 Level 3;
(awarded 2009 onwards).
• City and Guilds 2350 (all modules);
(awarded 2009 onwards).

that was from the info when i last registered last year. No mention of 2391 or 2392

both of which have now been replaced by 2394 & 2395

With NICEIC, To apply for approved contractor status you need to hold QS position (be registered as DI) for 6 month or a year (i cant remember which), and no need for 2391/2395
