As there seems to be quite a bit of interest the last few days in Wago and Wagobox I decided to see what all the fuss was about and have had a look at price comparisons.

If I want to spur a socket off a ring I could use :

  • 30a junction box at around 90p
Or

  • 3 x 3 Pole Pushwire Terminal blocks at 24p each (72p total) enclosed in a wagobox at £1.55
Is this correct how it would cost? If so is it really worth £2.27 instead of 90p

I also looked at fitting downlighters, I pay 70p per choc box and a strip of 3 connectors costs around 18p, again compared to £2.27 this seems a lot if I am fitting 100 downlighters.

Finally I tend to join out neutrals in the back of a switch and the '3 Pole lever cage clamp' looks ideal, is this o.k to use, as at 20p each does not seem too drastic in price. The 'Pushwire' ones are even cheaper but am I correct in saying you cannot remove the wires once fitted?

Thanks in advance

Yeah you can remove the wires from the push fit once fitted. you have to pull and twist at the same time. Hope that helps.

You can off set the extra material cost against time saved on the labour cost.Youll have to nip out to the van get both and time yourself.I cant do it as its raining here and as we know water and electricians dont mix!:D

The problem is that the jb's dont have clamps , so there is a risk that cables can be pulled out , where as wago have a grip to stop this.

I use M2 17th edition jb's as they have grips and cost £1.20 each and are easy to connect.

M2 17th junction box? where do you get these from ? do you have a link i have only seen and used the ashley 17th jb's

i will upload a pic later , i only seem to be able to buy them from CEF and even then they seem to a sell out very quick. so when i see them i buy bulk.

i will see if i can find a link

Think the major factor is they dont have to be accessable mate. classed as permanent connections so can realistically be put under floorboards! whereas your 30a junction box needs to be accessable.

I would combine choc box and wago to keep costs down. Wagoboxes are massive and expensive. A few wagos will go in a choc box easy peasy.

i use the wagos and choc boxes together and they are great and yeh it gets around the accessibility issue with the jb`s

Absolutely correct they hold water, shrouds are totally unnecessary. 20s is 24mm spanner, 20 large is 30mm spanner.
