I need some outside containment for about half a dozen or so unsightly cables run outdoor - a mix of black telephone, black security alarm, red (now faded to orange) fire alarm. These are all existing cables, and need tidying up and supporting properly (currently all tied to disintegrating plastic drainage pipe with cable clips that are also breaking down in in sunlight). Something like 50x50mm size, and about a 5 or 6m run.

Indoors I'd use trunking, but outdoors? I can find black PVC trunking but no mention of use outdoors. Galv trunking might just corrode?

Also the cable run is over a fire escape, which is one reason why the current arrangement is somewhat unsatisfactory.

Any suggestions?

The containment doesn't need to be IP rated, just needs to not deteriorate unduly in the sun/rain. I've only ever installed galv trunking indoors, but if it won't corrode then happy to use it here.

black plastic is always UV resistant although it may not be tested and listed as such.

the pigment used to turn 99% of plastics from there natural colour to black is the addition of carbon that is inherently UV resistant.

another possibility would be split corrugated conduit or even double split.

Thanks James, I did wonder about black plastic being OK, possibly will go for that.

The fire alarm cable should be in its own containment or a separate compartment of the containment.
Currently fire alarm cable outoors tied together round a pipe with all the other cables, so no containment at all, presumably the installers thought that was OK. Could quite easily have two smaller black trunkings, just don't tell me it has to be in red trunking!

It's galvanised and provided you coat any cut edges with galv spray there should be no signs of undue corrosion any time soon. Galv trunking outdoors isn't something I see every day, but have fitted it outdoors on a few jobs where it had been specified.

Absolutely correct they hold water, shrouds are totally unnecessary. 20s is 24mm spanner, 20 large is 30mm spanner.

I'm not entirely certain as it's very tough, but brittle when cold.
