Hi all ive start my 2330 at college last september and just wanted to make sure what the outcome will be at the end of the course it seems abit of a grey area will i be fully qaulified part qaulified or have a peice of paer to say i can wire a plug im enjoying the course dont get me wrong but for over three thousound pound i want to be able to work as a electrician after i finish college i know that this is the last of the course and will be replaced by something else which again worries me abit any help or advice would be much appreciated, Also i was told its not the best time to become an electrician as people are struggling to find the work is this true ? cheers guys and girls

As mentioned the next step is to get a job as an electrician's mate, trainee, apprentice, labourer, whatever you want to call it, while you do the practical aspect which is the C&G2356 if you're quick (by which I mean sign up today) or the practical modules and renewables module of the new C&G2357.
As regards being "qualified to wire a plug" it doesn't work like that - the 2330 is the theory, the 2356 is the practical; you need both theory and practical to work as an electrician.
Companies are unlikely to want to employ someone as if they have the 2356 if they haven't got it. If you stipulate you "need" more money than everyone else it will make it even harder to find employment - there are loads of guys offering to work for free to get a foot in the door.
exactly Adam....

Re: C&g 2330 adivice please

yes ...and this is why their better askin in here first......and you know my thoughts on these parasitic enterprises.....claiming to be `colleges` and `training centres`.....its all a load of cobblers.....most towns have further education colleges......large towns and citys have unis as well.....these institutions have always served the their communitys well.....so why all this 16 week stuff?....
well, i`ll tell you why......causs theres all this self-esteem around now.....this coupled with the notion (god knows where it came from)....with the notion that you can just change careers...or float into another disipline off the cuff.....
note how the O/P quickly disappeared once it was made clear to him just whats involved.....and thats just kickin the door open....
Very true. The training centre parasites will tell you they're just providing customers with a service which they want (ie think they can already wire a plug so think they just need a bit of paper and a van to work as an electrician) while in reality they're not giving customers what they want because they're not leaving them prepared to do electrical work to a high enough standard to make any money out of it. Customers are leaving the training centres with little more knowledge or experience than they had when they went in, just several thousand pounds lighter, which isn't the service they wanted at all.

Yes I'm sure there is some guy somewhere who can testify that he did a 5 week course, bought a van and is now making loadsamoney, but that is the exception not the norm.

I've not disappeared I'm not on my pc and its a pain writing back on my phone I still need a wage to be able to support my family so working for free or next to nothing wouldn't be an option for me if I was younger and had no ties then I'd be happy to work for nothing and gain the relivant experience. Cos I know the bigger picture would be worth it and that is why I'm asking for the advice

allrite...
so how about asking local electricians if they need any saturday work.....offer your time for free....and ..with a bit of luck.....someone will offer their knowledge....for free n all.....

If working for a trainee's wage isn't an option you'll have to try to get someone to employ you on a higher wage but without any experience.
Good luck with that. Personally I'd explore other avenues for supporting your family rather than laying down the law to a potential employer and telling them what's not an option.

Employers don't even have to pay minimum wage on a first year of an apprenticeship, and to get minimum wage you have to be damn good, and don't expect double figure hourly for a long time, the reason is very simple... The market is flooded with prospective apprentices and mature guys looking to retrain and there are simply not enough jobs.
You have to ask yourself how bad you want it, if you do, you are going to have to possibly forget about earning a wage good enough to support a family , you will need to transfer to part time evening courses and continue your current employment, failing that get a night job after college, it really is that hard, in 3 years I worked at college I had contact with over 200 different lads, I can't think of one that made it self employed, maybe 30% completed the courses and only a handful were any good, but, some did get jobs, ÂŁ4-5 an hour but they got their foot in the door

adam....he`s got more chance of plattin pis at the mo....you know it and i know it....
if he can get some unpaid weekend work of ov someone.....and he frames himsen...

to the O/P...if...and i say if you are lucky enough to get a bit of experience of ov someone.......don`t go in with the attitude of `oh well, its unpaid like....so it dont matter if i`m on my phone` n all that lot....whatever work your given....whatever tasks your set....you go to it....
when more work comes in and they need someone.....this is when your attitude to it all will count....your age isn`t against you either.....better someone in their ....well, at least late 20s in this game.....youngsters arse about a lot.....not good near cutouts etc....

My work attitude is great i will graft i want this alot but have to be praticial i think the only way im going to acheive it is by working along side somone who someone said before hand hand has been in it for years if i can get that then i know someone will see the potential i have and for me it will make things alot clearer and ill be able to enjoy working doing what i want to do have to do some more research thanks again all

Most of us one man bands would love somebody with us , but reality is we have to up our rates by ÂŁ10 an hour, I had a lad with for 6 weeks on run up to xmas for 4 days a week to get me thru, he has 2330 lev 2 & 3, 2382 and 2392 and 3 years on tools on big rewires commercial & domestic , we agreed ÂŁ10 an hour cash, I stonking deal for him on the run up to Xmas, I new it would cost me ÂŁ1800 in cash but I arranged some cash of about 10 jobs , he has asked me for a job , and I would love to take him, he has offered to drop to ÂŁ8-ÂŁ9 and sub to me as self employed, I'm really thinking about it as its been great having him, but in North Wales whilst I have been busy, that might be different if I'm charging nearly ÂŁ30 a hour
