Hi all ive start my 2330 at college last september and just wanted to make sure what the outcome will be at the end of the course it seems abit of a grey area will i be fully qaulified part qaulified or have a peice of paer to say i can wire a plug im enjoying the course dont get me wrong but for over three thousound pound i want to be able to work as a electrician after i finish college i know that this is the last of the course and will be replaced by something else which again worries me abit any help or advice would be much appreciated, Also i was told its not the best time to become an electrician as people are struggling to find the work is this true ? cheers guys and girls

According to my local college you'll be able to do the practical parts of the 2357 and the renewables module - your 2330 will count towards the rest of the theory so you won't have to do all of it.
I think before long you'll have to do the whole lot, which is why I signed up for the 2356 while I still could. That gives me 3 years to do it...

2330 technical certificates won't ever count for nothing , very good qualifications, but you will never be a fully qualified electrician (in the eyes of the JIB), untill you have gained the NVQ , but as its gone, you can't ever get the old NVQ but the new 2357 might help you but only if you have a work placement

Glenn....do you or anybody else want to explain the whole JIB thing??? !!!!

well.....just as Adam has pointed out really...and yourself of course.....
jib see the NVQ3 as the prerequisite to becoming an electrician.....
i.e: if you dont have it your not coming in....
well, not as an electrician anyway.....
see, they want to introduce some sort of level 2 NVQ...thats for the domestic installers n housebashers....so the evidence needed to fulfill that will be based on single phase incoming...and asssociated equipment.....a bit lightweight really......
go for gold.....
always believe in your soul....

I could try and give you an insight as to why its like this.
Back in 2010 the as then C&G qualifications were ticking along quite well, then an organisation called summit skills tried to get involved , summit skills ran skills competitions in the colleges And then had a skill electric final in a big city somewhere, anyway from what I understood they challenged city and guilds over the current quals and tried to go into some sort of partnership with another awarding body EAL who also do NVQ type quals(crap).
At the time I was told in order to work on the new courses we had to be NVQ assessors, so me and two others did our NVQ A1 assessors award in prep for these new quals, well two years and countless "this is the last 2356 enrolment day " came and went and in the end I think summit skills challenge to the mighty city & guilds eventually failed, even the 2330 was due to finish 3 years ago but didn't , all this really brings about the forced changes and the way even city & guilds are going down the forced NVQ type qual , ie you need a work placement, also there were persistent rumours that the government wanted to cut funding to non NVQ type qualification in the construction sector
Now I've since left the college and no doubt some of what I said may not be 100 % accurate but that's what I remember.!!

After a few JP chenet's that was a tough one to write on a iPhone
