It's a good game. Hard to find people to play face to face with nowadays.

agreed.
"over the board" games are the purest way of playing the game , but offers little in the way of opponent variety unless youre in a chess club.
its either computer chess or nothing these days for me.

I haven't played for many years, but it's like riding a bike you never forget, I used to think I was fairly good until I played a chap on the channel tunnel during downtime (there was a lot of that) he'd beat me 8/10 games, it got where after a few moves I couldn't see a way to win or should I say stop him winning so it was "set them up again" lol

he was probably using established opening moves to put you in trouble early on.
a small amount of positional study on your behalf would have levelled the playing field.
;-)

Bloody ell Biff you really do sound like you know what your talking about lol, I'll play you when I get better if it kicks off :)

It wasn't so much he was putting me in trouble, I just couldn't find my way to develop anything positive from the board, he could also use his pawns to tie up the centre of the board I'm sure he had 24 pawns lol

and i'm waiting for MDJ to stumble upon this thread.
apparantly he's a chess big-shot.
i've heard he even owns his own board & pieces.
;-)
