Hello, yesterday I Carried out a EICR, two DBs all installed in 2007, so pretty simple until I got to the last circuit. And It was a 16amp type B marked up as bathroom socket, thinking it was most likely the shaver points, after half hour I found a weatherproof socket under the bathroom sink, attempted to take a Zs from it and found there was no earth, after another half hour of ****ing around I found a 230v to 230v transformer?! Which fed the socket,

if someone could tell me how to upload photos, I will show you.

is this ok?! Apparently it was installed by a previous owner, I've disconnected it as they don't use it anyway but seems abit strange.

Read the flipping' section! It took me all of 10secs yesterday to refresh my memory on the exact bit and double check before my first post! Clue: what work have you done?

I rather enjoyed the slide show, but then I also like cartoons, the Road Runner is an particular favourite, full of usefull dont do advice from the Amce Company just like a green book I have knocking about somewhere
Beep Beep,

I'm more than competent to find it in the book but the simple fact that I asked on here first because it's a lot easier, just because i asked one question means I'm not competent? I will happily send you over the pile of certificates and qualifications to prove i am competant if you like??
Yeah great post them up for our perusual, I could do with a laugh

your right it won't make you competent just by reading the index but having the qualifations would

I really don't want to take this post off topic but it's an area I feel fairly passionately about. Your reply is a misconception and a small part of problem that is slowly ruining our industry.

I don't think anyone will argue against the fact that C&G 2382 can be passed purely by using the index....

Therefore producing a crisp C&G 2382 certificate gained by using a book index does not make somebody competent. In my own opinion, a thorough understanding should be obtained before the exam is sat.

Although the 17th now allows LV socket -outlets utilising electrical separation as the means of protection to be installed within locations containing a bath or shower, the 3m distance from zone 1 is still applicable.

Unfortunately, as the socket-outlet is within zone 2, it is not fine.

As most bathrooms in the UK don't come even close to having these sorts of dimensions available in a bathroom, your pretty much buggered which ever way you want to go. But it's no problem at all virtually everywhere else in the world, ....and you don't see them falling down like ninepins because they have an RCD protected socket in there bathrooms lol!!

If people in the UK are really that scared or worried, install a separate radial circuit and protect with a 10mA RCD.... Just use a little common sense in the placement location, or has commonsense completely left the building these days?? lol!!

ah but you can have it directly above the bath/shower as it is outside the zones lol

shaver sockets are allowed in places sockets are not

nothing wrong with them in bathrooms in my opinion but the regs differ and that is what we have to work to

the op socket is 230 not selv so not allowed within 3m in uk regs
