Perhaps you could use an adaptable box where the original wiring is now and extend the wiring from the box to the C/U? I would use Wago's (which are ace) to connect the old wiring and deck the board out in harmonised colours (dont forget the sticker that warns the customer or another installer) then slightly relocate the C/U. Somewhere on this site someone posted a photo of an adaptable box that had a rail fitted which looked really neat. I have never got on with crimps and there is another whole discussion about crimping solid strands!!

wagos on a dinrail????

Ha ha that would look good. No each connection was made it using a connector on the din rail. I think they are called clip on terminal connectors? looked really good and neat, just to confuse us even further I think Wago do something similar.

If using butt connectors don't forget to heatshrink the joint.

don't need heatshrink if inside CU.

anothe thought is could the new CU be located a few inches higher up so as to give extra cable length?

Klippon.

Just one of the many, many makers of DIN rail through-terminals. Others include Weidmuller (actually I think Klippon are Weidmuller now), ABB, Entrelec - all the usual suspects. Dunno about Wago, but most ranges will have poke'n'pray terminals if you're sold on the idea of bits of springy metal.

A box with a DIN rail and terminals would be my choice if you needed to extend all of them, e.g. moving the CU, but in the OP's case it sounds like only a few, so crimp. Wagos & choc-block would look naff waving around inside anyway.

As for colours - it's inside the CU, so you can use singles.

wagos every time....!! rated at 24A 32A and 41A depending on cable size and use!!

I've no argument that Wagos are up for the job,...BUT, ...They don't look too professional sitting in a CU enclosure. Whereas thru crimps with coloured heatshrink are almost undetectable, thus giving a far better professional finish to the job!!

The heatshrink is not for compliance; it's for relative prettiness. Done properly it's like stockings on a fit bird.
