I've been told that if my car's booked in for an MOT, and I'm driving direct to the MOT station within operating hours then it's OK to do so....

My ticket ran out in October and the car has been SORN since the tax ran out, but I have to do a 4 mile drive to get the MOT done on Thursday.

I'm only doing it because my mum is getting her boiler serviced that day and my car has to be out of her garage, so I thought I might as well get it back 'on the road' so to speak.

Is this legit does anyone know?

This ain't no Quattro ****, it's Integrale ****.

Love,

Colin

If your vehicle is booked into a MOT test station then you are ok for the journey their and back if it fails. Don;t go on a 100 mile trip.

You still need insurance mind you and make sure your actually booked in to the test centre.

Is it left and drive and if so do you want to sell oh and providing the MOT is pre booked your ok don't forget to tell your insurers

best bets phone your local friendly cop shop and ask for the advice your given to be put in writing and ask for whoever advises yous Number

Iv heard same for MOT but TAX may be a different issue

NO YOU CAN NOT

As you said it has no tax you will be committing a motoring offence and liable to prosecution by the police and also loose your car!!

get the garage to collect it mate to save face!!!

if the vehicle had TAX and Insurance you can drive it for a pre arranged appointment only!!

but seen as you have No TAX it will not be allowed on public roads!!

That was my thought DS after reading again Garage may "Lend " you trade plates or come collect car n use trade plates

Durham sparky is wrong, as tony mc says says, as long as you book it - give them the reg etc, you can drive it there - without the tax - this is in the road traffic act 1988! How can you get it taxed, if you dont have the mot!

Well it'll definately need to be insured (and not just the 3rd party DOC extension from another policy) but you can drive it to the garage for a prebooked MOT without one - otherwise how would you get it there?
AFAIK you need a valid MOT cert to get a tax disc so you can't very well tax it until it passes an MOT.

well i will admit im wrong but that website is not really a government site is it!!! show me the page of the RTA 1988 that says that and i will eat my hat!
