As a favour to my local village school i have been doing the pat testing.
The council phoned the head and said she needs to do a risk assessment for the frequency of testing fare enough.

I said i would help her do this but the council have come back saying that i cant and i cant do the testing as all through i am a fully qualified and indentured electrician with 20 years i am not qualified pat tester but would be happy for me to quote for doing a fixed wiring inspection .

Who knows, a bit off topic (completely) but I wonder if Andrex will run a course on how to effectively wipe?

Actually there is probably a C&G for it in the wings!!

Probably a course with someone spouting ???? and earning good money for it.

I've been on courses where I ended up showing the instructor how to do what he was supposed to be teaching I was really impressed with that having paid good money

It is niether mandatory or statutory to hold a PAT testing certificate, and therefore the council(as most are) are actually contravening your human rights, buy a PAT tester and buy a test sheet pad, check it out, if you're a decent Sparky, you'll have it sussed in 5 minutes, odd how ''competent '' people take the PAT Testing certificate etc and then proclaim themselves as decent sparkies..mad world..

A Lack of interest can dull the senses no end. Can I just ask how many where part P wonders and how many would have picked it up left to their own devices.
Its all rubbish. Just a "qualification" for those without a clue, so they can feel all important and do a job for peanuts earning the gaffer loads of pennies.

I know this to be a fact. To gain full benefit and understanding you really need 2377/001 qualification as well. Not all colleges do this though. I don't know why. It is a better qualification as well, as it covers responsibilities and the law as regards EAW regs and HSW act 1974. Welldone and good luck.

If that is so, ....It makes me wonder what you was taught, or not taught in your electrical C&G courses to become an electrician??

Hi

I done the course to help out a couple of charity shops in my area , No Payments involved , I Personally bought the PAT Tester .

I have a HNC in Mechanical Engineering and been at it for 30 years or so I have dealt with Electrical and Mechanical Work all my Working life , So it was not a "Qualification for those without a clue ".

Apart from the Sparkies who where on my course , the others where from IT dept of schools / colleges , where the experience and cost of a fully qualified Electrician is not required to PAT test ONLY, there gear .

Don't forget a PAT Tester who only has that qualification , can not repair anything he rejects , that would be down to a qualified Electrician .
