Re: how not to wire your extension

lol.

Well, my plumber just inspected and priced up the job. I now have a plumber booked in to re-do the heating and outside tap.

I have a sparky coming tomorrow to look at what needs to be done in the kitchen.

I will get the electrics, plumbing and gas done before the new kitchen is fitted etc.

My headache has finally cleared. The builder is good at bricks and windows, I am happy with that work.

While it is probably in my rights to deduct the fee for the repair work from the builder (he has not had the final payment yet) I will probably just leave it - he was about 5k cheaper than the other quotes!

If you have opinions on where radiator pipes are run, maybe comment here: Your thoughts on running radiator pipes along a wall - Plumbing Forum

if you are also a member. I was going to ask here but then saw the message to ask plumbing questions on the plumbing forum.

My first thought is why do they have to be run along the wall and do you mean run on the surface of the wall or beneath the plaster?

I like to run them under the floor and then use 15mm chrome plated tube popping up out of the floor to the radiator valves. I take the view that pipes should not be seen, but if they have to be, try to make a feature of them.

Re: how not to wire your extension

his problem was steering. he turned to port to try and avoid. if he'd gone to starboard and hit head on, titanic would not have sunk.

Yes .. that's something that I thought too - in fact the ship may have swung enough to miss the iceberg, but, Captain Smith and his crew were there - we were not and it's very easy to do the right thing from an armchair one hundred years later !!

You're a lot more forgiving than I'd be mate, I've seen blokes kicked off jobs for less and they then got the repair bills.

Re: how not to wire your extension

sod the wench on the bow. she 'll go on to make more films. my point is that, a crumpled bow would only have led to 2 -3 compartments flooding. as it was, the gash down the side reached over about 5-6 compartments.

Re: how not to wire your extension

Does not have to go along the wall, was just an idea. But my plumber did not agree with the idea and it will be going under the insulation in a cavity / conduit (whatever it is called) and all be "sweated" and done proper - no push fits etc.

Re: how not to wire your extension

Hope it all works out for you, a lot to be said about building and running utilities, and being naive in your project.

Good luck

Good lad!

It always looks awful running along a wall even when it's boxed in I think.

If you can't get it under the floor an alternative way is to bring it down from upstairs in 10mm microbore copper buried in the plaster.

Bring both legs down together centrally within radiator's width, break surface about 2 inches above bottom of radiator & run left & right towards valves, then bend them down behind valves & into an elbow fixed to the valves. Quite neat & tidy I think.

8mm microbore can be used, but I have reservations about it.

It was a bloody awful film anyway. That said, the real thing couldn't have been a barrel of laughs either :)

Well there was a looming war to plan for.

(and NO .. it was NOTHING to do with the weaving industry)

He has access to 15mm pipe which he said something about going down to 10mm. I gave him permission to remove as much wall as needed and not worry about that - just get the plumbing spot on.

"being naive in your project" - it was never meant to be my project - I hired a builder to do the whole job. It is only because I work from home managing websites that I could watch and photograph the work as it was done and blog about it. I dread to think where I would be in 6 months from now if I was out all day while they did the building. Remember, if it was not for davethsparky showing you all my photos I would not have been alerted to the problems - I only found out when my website visits leapt from 10 a day (friends on Facebook looking) to hundreds (you all looking!).

To a big thanks to davethsparky!

I think our comments here were meant to be constructive and it's good that you have realised that - some folks do not or cannot recognise help when they see it and start hoyin' wobblers all over the shop!!

Re: how not to wire your extension

Well, I always try to take the positive from everything I encounter and leave the rest behind. Helps keep me sane!
