On the back of a thread I started I thought I'd start this since there doesn't seem to be one and I'm sure we all have a right good few that would scare those in the know.

How many supplies does one need!

Yes, noticed that. Lots of discussion about that kind of thing - asked NICEIC inspector about it on last assessment - he said leave it alone. Asked him about requesting change to PME to overcome the problem - he reckoned TNS with 951 clamp and acceptable Ze is always preferable to PME. Who am I to disagree?

As far as I'm aware/concerned, that end of the earthing conductor is outside of our responsibility.

buried in a wall behind some tiles..... nice!

Changed a cooker for a client, this is what I found behind the connector plate. The lady of the house wired it 5yrs previously

Brown tape for the earth

Cut pieces of pvc insulation to cover the over stripped inner insulation
IMG_0349.jpg
Twist the earth back together as it's a bit too short!

Are those Gizmo's still around that sent the metre backwards while using the free leccy?? The one's i remember where 2 16mm singles coming out of an epoxy filled plastic IP type box.... Think they just rammed the two tail into the meter cable connections ....very quickly, ...to minimise the splashing and arching that went with it!! ...lol!!!

I don't know, but I am lead to believe there is an "object" when applied to the metre will send it backwards, obviously not going to happen when the metre is upgraded. So he sends it back, noting the reading, then gets free electricity. He keeps good records so his bill rises slightly each year. He is in the trade btw.

NO ...not in the trade, just a friend of a friend situation really, and this was years ago now, none of these smart meters about then just the spinning wheel type ...lol!!! As far as i can remember he only used the thing weekends, but by the look of the flash marks on the meter cable cover, for a long time...lol!!! I would imagine any meter guy would have known what was going on from those flash marks as he whacked the cables in ....lol!!!

Well it's about time I show you guys how it's done in Africa. Here's an installation I got called to today by the building management company. There's been a recent history of BMS fire alarm episodes where stairwell pressurisation fans for the block of flats above this retail premises has been causing an annoyance. This was the DB for the retail premises.

The DB main breaker looks like it was installed by a complete imbecile who had nothing in his toolbox apart from a hammer and chisel. After speaking to the tenant it turns out that the breaker has had a history of tripping for 'no apparent reason' over the last few months.

As if this world class installation wasn't enough the electrician has been back a few times and eventually remedied the problem with these;

As an added bonus in the second photo you'll get a chance to check out his VFD wiring job.
