Moderators, Please. It's really not helping people to have a suggested link starred out. Why do you do this?

Where has your sponsor ad gone?

Have you pulled out?

Not at all Mark, Dan is sorting as we speak.

I think it’s undisputed that this is the best Electrical forum in the UK & Ireland – our customers regularly come to us with queries about one thing or another and when we are unsure of the solution, we always point them to this forum for advice. We consistently hear gushing compliments about the depth of knowledge you’s guys have and the pleasant manner in which you deliver it. So it's not just about advertising space for us - unbeknown to many of you, you are actually helping out Meteor and our customers and for that we're grateful.

Hey all,

Whilst we don't mind discussion of most companies, and certainly if you're a regular member of the forum, we do ensure that it is just discussion and not always direct links. Discuss TLC by writing their name, but you don't need to always link to their products etc.

I did a scan of the links, and TLC got more hits from here than even some of our sponsors. To put it simply, we can't dish out that traffic and business as it will eventually affect the sponsorship scheme (why would people pay to sponsor us if they get the same benefit FOC?).

Screwfux just blocked us, so we blocked them, it's neither here nor there. Whilst TLC certainly haven't blocked us; them and a number of other websites that were being linked-to a lot have been temporarily blocked while you get used to just mentioning them and not linking to them. I'll review this in a few months.

However feel free to actually discuss whoever you wish, it's only their link (URL) that has been filtered out.

Well thats just silly

'Screwfux just blocked us, so we blocked them'

Screwfix is a crap forum compared to this one but you seem determined to lower yourself to their level.

'them and a number of other websites that were being linked-to a lot have been temporarily blocked while you get used to just mentioning them and not linking to them'

I don't think I can be a member of a forum that tells me how to think and blocks my links, so thats that then.

I'll review this in a few months

Whilst I understand your concern there's nothing I can do for you.
Screwfix's forum isn't the best, you're right. But the linking to their products has been blocked, not just their forum.

I'm not telling you how to think, I'm telling you what's going on. No links will work if you link to blocked websites. End of. It'll be reviewed in the coming months. I don't block your links, I block links in general, it's not a personal thing.

If you wish for your account to be removed just give me a shout but do think about it before doing so as we can't restore removed accounts.

I get great links for valium and other meds every day in my emails :)

New to the forum so not getting involved in this.

It's those dodgy sites that nasty google leads you to! ;)

Don't do anything hasty Andy, you may regret it in the future, and i am sure you are just replying in the heat of the moment. Let the moment pass, and have your rant as we all do from time to time, but if blocking Screwfix or any other supplier gives me a free forum of this high standard then i am more than happy with this arrangement. After all we all know they exist and use them often.

Cheers.............Howard

Re: How are we supposed to talk products, tools and help people if we can't post link

I purchase goods from both TLC and Test-meter, and I don't think that they are competitors. TLC's selection of test kit is very limited, and the product ranges do not really overlap.

For Test-meters info, I found them here on this forum whilst looking for a Megger, and I have recommended them to may people since dealing with them.

Still trying not to get involved :)

Re: How are we supposed to talk products, tools and help people if we can't post link

You can always use a link shortening service such as bitly | Basic | a simple URL shortener to circumnavigate a domain block - so surely it's just a bit pointless disabling people being able to link direct?

Re: How are we supposed to talk products, tools and help people if we can't post link

Guys, sorry to intrude!

I have kept quiet on this one, but its getting stupid and argumentative, as Dan always says, its our forum, our content, our voice.......But do we pay for it, contribute to its upkeep, spend hours maintaining it....... NO we dont.

Everybody knows that we need the sponsors to keep our precious forum, so debating this is absolutely poinless, and lets face it it makes as little as no difference to ANY of us! if we cant go and find a product on the Screws**t or TLC site ourselves then we shouldnt be messing with electrickery!

I will contine to use these as i see fit and when its convenient, i also fully support and participate in the use of the forum sponsors! this decision will not change the way i buy.

But if it keeps my beloved forum here and free then all the better !

Sorry to vent but can we all put toys back in prams and get over this completely insignificant point!

Re: How are we supposed to talk products, tools and help people if we can't post link

Well to throw my 2 pennies worth in, a few weeks ago there was a very angry member of the forum complaining about not being allowed to swear on the forum. He came out with statements like "freedom of speach" "against his human rights" ect ect. As I said to him this is a free to air forum but it has rules, these rules will not be to everyones liking. There are some things about the forum I would change if I could but in saying that I really enjoy this forum and think it is a credit to Dan and all the guys that run it. So if they want to impose a few rules well thats up to them. If there is ever a rule I really do not agree with I will leave. Until then keep up the good work. Blocking 2 sites has not made the forum a lesser forum in my opinion.

Re: How are we supposed to talk products, tools and help people if we can't post link

cant you just post the screwfix item number and not the link everyone knows how to get on to the screwfix website ???

Re: How are we supposed to talk products, tools and help people if we can't post link

Yes, but TLC's website is less simple to get to a search box. Clicking a link is always so much more convenient :)

Why not approach TLC & Screwfix and see if they will pay a referrer fee, if a customer comes from the forum and makes a purchase as a result?
