I've managed to get a 450mm SDS (10) masonry bit jammed solid, going up at an angle above a door frame. I think it has got stuck at some reinforcing in a lintel. I have about 50mm still showing, but can't get the bl**dy thing to move. It's in a domestic property and the lady of the house ain't best pleased.
Any suggestions as to how I might retrieve the offending item ( and yes, I feel like a right t*t!)??????

Well, was back this morning armed with all the combined wisdom of the Forum (except the Semtex - that idea came in too late), and......the fooker is still there! Nothing, but nothing would move it. Even tried bending/breaking it. Angle grinder would only have reached the last 3mm or so, so didn't use it.

Fortunately, the customer is my wife's hairdresser of long standing, and she sees the funny side of it (in truth, it gives her something to slag me about every time I see her from now on).

As I pointed out to her, you really only notice it if you look up at a particular angle as you walk out the front door!

And, I didn't have the courage to charge her

Trust me borrow some pipe wrenches and extend the handle with a bit of pipe it will allow high turning force way beyond that which can be achieved with a spanner or lock grips, as I said you have enough available torque to snap it then if it won't work free.... Plus any chance of a pic for the lads

Problem is that there is simply no room to work with anything of any length as it's tight in the corner of a recessed uPVC door frame. Believe me when I say I do not give up/in easily!

SDS on chisel mode(rotation stop). Best set of mole grips you can get on shaft and lock tight then pry bar on fulcrum point. Alternate between chiseling forward and levering out to shift out and unpack debris that is trapping it in. (Hope you gan find a fulcrum point though).

Only other thing might be if you can weld a slide hammer shaft to the end of the bit.

Get a set of mole grips clamped onto it, and then hammer the mole grips away from the wall. Also try twisting the grips back and forward from time to time.

a mate got a drill bit stuck. was only a 6.5 but i snapped it with a pair of grips trying to get it out.

if you press on too hard your just asking for trouble

Don't chisel in, it just gets stuck further in hard materials.

Got my 10mm meter long stuck yesterday in a solid stone wall that was just over 1m thick had to hammer the bit to pop it out the other side
