Good evening gentlemen i been asked to put switched fused spur in the airing cupboard for a shower pump the customer says the plumber says just tag it on to the immersion ! What's everybody's take on this ?

Not really allowed by the Regs, you will probably find if the house has a split CU the immersion will not be on an RCD to prevent nuisance tripping. A lot better to have a fused spur of the main ring circuit.

Cables buried less than 50mm without mechanical protection?

Thanks!, I'll buy that for the requiring RCD, I thought that something else was being hinted at. Still curious about the why no spur (I've seen loads like it) feeding older mechanical timers in the airing cupboard for example and running the CH pump.

Quite agreed but the regs say "should" and as most people have an immersion heater as a back up to their normal heating its not really a problem IMHO.

The issue normally is how to get a outlet for the pump in the airing cupboard. Its the most common "deviation" I see when doing PIR's and CU changes by far.

The best I saw once, left by a plumber, was a trailing lead from the pump and the nearest socket was the on the opposite side of the landing, which was also the top of the stairs - talk about a trip hazzard.

One way out of this if the IH is emergency standby only is to use a 20a 2way switch as a changeover....then either the IH or pump can be used but not at the same time....as long as the client is happy with this arrangement it gets over any issues with the dedicated circuit thing.

The rcd spur being fitted is probably because there wasn't rcd protection of that supply.
