Installing earth rod

Anyone ever installed an earth rod horizontally in a basement?
DB is in basement mounted on a wall that i could drill and hammer rod into "ground".

I agree, a 10mm² rod gets pretty bendy. A 10mm dia rod is much better.

Actually, if you check the research, the rod diameter makes little difference to the Ra. The length is much more important.

The point is the slightly thicker rods have the thread on the end, and it is easy to screw another on to it and go even deeper, these 3 ft things are pretty crap, obviously in good ground they will do the job, I never used them myself, but the ground around here does have a lot of stones in it and they just struggle and are pretty pointless.

Indeed. If you're going to hammer a rod into the ground, you might as well use something you can extend if necessary.

I don't; but I think that the fact that he is MIA is a net loss to the 'board'!

Last time I spoke to him he was in quite bad health.

Have heard unfortunately that he passed away a while ago. Now I don't 100% know this as a fact, as I didn't know him outside of the internet. However the sources I've heard from are pretty reliable.
