Am I the only one? I'm stick to death of coming on here and getting told the best electricians are career changers because they paid for it themselves. 16-21 year olds are no good because they have a life outside work. This scheme worked for nearly 100 years but now it can't why? All the 6 week wonders, taxi drivers and the rest of the M.U.M'S (made up mates) can bore me with your reasons.

yer i've had a go and gave myself a 65% = 98 mark pass rate to aim for which I got 108 marks on my first paper but only got 94 on the 2nd I haven't had chance to do the 3rd?4th papers cause i've been busy with work.

But were some people on the course are answering the Past papers while reading through GN3 I don't I read through a section or 2 sections of GN3 every other day to try and let it sink in then attempt a past paper on Sundays withouht refering to GN3 to see if i've remembered anything and I get stuck on some fairly easy questions . Im fairly confident on Correct terminologies it's just that some of my answers while might be correct in another exam they are not answered like 2391 answers if you catch my drift.

What I was gonna do was post the questions from the 2 past papers I got left and also the answers i've put down and ask some of you guys to mark them or point out were im going wrong :p

strat a thread mate and im sure you will either be enlightened or more confused by the answers :D:D

In other news I just picked up a sweet pair of Dickies sparkie pants from RAPID and they were only $20 quid half price in a sale so if anyone needs new work pants and live near a RAPID store go to them unless you can get them Cheaper :p

i was ****ting myself for 2391 when i looked at past papers and realised i knew **** however my exam was easy i think, my advice would be read first couple of questions, answer them in your head write answers if you can quickly but carry on reading next questions as sometimes the questions trip memmorys in your brain for previous questions and only then do you remember and get the full proper answer. your brain needs warming up sometimes and the examiners love putting brain freezers at the beginning of exams

I can't say I'm sure where you got that from...........

The simple fact is the "best" electricians are those who do the job properly, with safety in mind, as well as what their customer wants.

There is no "best" route to becoming an electrician - the point, I think is that most of us who have been in the game for considerable time (26yrs+) in my case - have gone far enough to see the benefits of having had a proper "apprenticeship" - that is, being SHOWN how to do things, as well as sitting in a classroom learning about regulations and theory.

What most of us cannot understand is how that can be compressed into a six week course, whoever pays for it.

In common with most here, I guess it is easy to understand how six weeks intensive learning can teach the bulk of the regulations in THEORY - but again, most of us who went the "old" route worry because there is a world of difference between theory, and putting things into practice in a safe, and professional way.

Being an electrician is not simply about knowing that the brown wire hurts more than the others can. It involves aspects of so many other trades too - such as knowing whether it is safe to run a cable through joists, or within walls. It involves elements of carpentry, building, plumbing (yeah, really), and so on - and all that within a fairly rigid set of rules.

Those are all things that no six week course can teach. But - six week course types also probably have advantages over us old timers too in some ways. For one thing, most of them are more willing to pull out the BRB or OSG, and they are probably often more willing to challenge themselves on the best ways of doing a thing - with time, we all tend to relax into feeling we know best.

Personally, my preference is for a return to old type apprenticeships - with proper education of theory too - but then, I'd have more chance of seeing Mickey Mouse elected to run the country I think :)

LOL - guys - you may be right - not a lot to choose between Mr Mouse and Mr Cameron. It remains to be seen whether or not he does any better than the last idiot we had - surely to god he cannot do any worse.

To be fair, he's inherited a lot of crap - and he's hamstrung by halfwits - Clegg, being king of them all - and the worst kind, a halfwit with a voice, he's learned how to use, just not how to stop.

Like most of us, I am sure things will get worse yet before they get better - I just wish they'd stop making empty promises, especially about small business - and only talk about the stuff they can do something about now. What's that old adage about shutting up and getting on with it?

bring back spitting image that will sort them out :D they are all a bunch of "too rich too far detached from real life" to have any idea of what it`s like for the real people out there. a lot of the policies unfortunately seem to have more to do with their ideologies than circumstances.
