Latest on the court challenge!!!

Anybody have an idea what this appeal will be costing the tax payer?

Time for Tim Yeo and other alleged representatives of ours to kick some arse.

Time to forget ego's and individual fiefdoms and swallow some pride.

Get a grip and make a decision which is allegedly what we pay you lot in government for.

For those of you on this thread lucky enough to have a holiday dilemma...
Get on with it and enjoy it while you can.

Stop the world, I want to get off.

Is the calculation something like this - or is it far more involved.

max/total FIT budget c £1b. Total households c20m. Divide one by t'other to get £50 per household bill per year. Is that it or is more complex?

It's a little more complex. In theory, at least, the electricity companies should be spreading the cost across all customers, including commercial and industrial. In practice they can do what they want.

Also that £1 billion is the total over 5 years to 2015. The 'spending cap' figures for each year are now set to:

2011/12 £94m
2012/13 £196m
2013/14 £328m
2014/15 £446m

If this government want to be the greenest government ever (and they bloody well need to be) then they need to alter their approach. Instead of trying to win support by pointing out how much money they can save the fuel bill payer, they should be pointing out that we should all get used to it - and quickly.

Changing to renewable energy will cost us all, but there is a huge incentive for doing so that will affect every single living thing on this planet - that's not overstating the importance.

If the government try to turn us on to green energy and win mass support, they're going to fail.

How does the government arrive at the £86 figure it was using?

What i find frustrating about these things - and you see it again on the high speed train link too - is the dispute over numbers.

Side one wants something so manipulates the figures in one direction, whilst the other side does the same in the opposite direction. Each side accuses the other of using incorrect numbers/logic.

But there's little attempt to sort the numbers and agree what the criteria and assumptions really could/should be. Each side are entrenched in their belief and won't budge, concede a point. Good policy is overtaken by mediocre politics and the regular punter either sits their confused and disinterested or plumps for one side or the other based on their politics ("bloody windmills", "free market economy" vs "all big businesses are b*stards" "green at whatever the cost".)

And the people caught in the cross-fire are just reasonable collateral damage.
