Please dont attack this is only what i was told on my first visit by the NIC ,

The inspector said that they did not like neautrals at the switches and if u did you should use double pole switches.

This was his view . not mine (im ducking for cover)

I bet he was in his forties (maybe even 50) this is the attitude I was taught with, that neutrals at switches was a no-no.
I'm afraid the argument that there is a greater risk of electrocution to the unsuspecting diyer does not hold water especially in part P land. (I think it was down to the lack of sleeving on a switch wire until the 80's; you would then argue that the risk is still evident at the rose! but this was deemed less accessable)

I've heard mention of neutrals in choccy blocks at switches being frowned upon. I dont think it would stop me doing it though. I now very often wire my neutrals to the switches, unless it is a bog standard lighting circuit

up and down on steps all day, call me lazy if u like lol but doing all connections at ground level suits more, besides this 4 bed house is having 80 downlights and im sick to death of them.
so oure going to take every s/w back to the sw? youre going to have to make a termination at the d/l anyway so whats another cable?[/QUOTE]

Im confussed so u take all the switch lines to switch (80) u still need to get a pair of steps up to every downlighter, unless u drink redbull

i use a cheaper alternative to red bull call RED KICK, saves customer money and its in Aldi for 69p
:D:D:D:D:D

full of sugar and tastes the same and looks the part! effects dont last as long though so may have to do it again!

I suggest you both take some time out from the forum to have a good long think.

This sniping at each other is like playground antics and i do not want it any more on this forum.

It has to stop NOW.. if not then no matter what, i shall have to take action. Your choice lads..??

On new build we used both methods,When wiring for outside front porch lantern we would wire to switch in hall with two way to landing 3 gang switches. its a matter of whats best for job at time, upstairs we wired loop to rose or bring it to a switch for a fan installed in a master bedroom to a on suite. It all depends on installation, In main living room we would wire loop to switch for wall lights wichever is best for situation and installers preference

The over 50's may be behind the door, in the age when electricians were really skilled...neutrals at switches was never encouraged. In fact it was a no-no. But I suppose it does help with diy nowadays

I bet he was in his forties (maybe even 50)...
Oh my, all electricians over 40 don't know what they are talking about..sums up part p perfectly

No neutrals at switches is to stop diy (part p meter readers) picking up a circuit for a socket, cooker or a shower at the 'easiest point'...which is normally a switch...except in the bygone age was not possible
