Ok maybe not a shower (unless newly qualified part p) ...but you get the drift. Nothing to do with shock hazard. The standards nowadays are in no way what they were, regards standard of work. I resent the statement 'over 40, must be a dinasaur...Appologies to any good sparks under 40

Watts sorry I think you think I was being sarcastic with my comment but I wasn't. I am aware I still have much to learn, and that a lot of the art and skill and knowledge has gone out of the industry (old man was a spark).

I am 28 and I use 3 plate. Again though, dad was a spark. Mind you, every training I have been on did 3 plate also.

I hate all 3-plate, 2 plate..I like singles...like they still want in some government buildings. Dead easy, cost more a bit, but second fix is a doddle. I do the occaisional house, not many...but still use pvc singles. An average 3 bed detached cost me £60 - £80 more and an hour or two wiring first fix. Half of this can be made back on second fix.

I've done a few subby jobs for some companies second fix...sometimes 5 twin and earths at bathroom fitting, with various notches...err whats all that about. Oh a fan and downlights...bloody ell. 3 hours to fit bathroom out? (trying to figure the davinci code notches)

My method 1-hour and no mistakes can be made

First I must apologise to anyone who took offense at my post deriding 40~50+ sparkies, not my intention at all.
I was actually coming from the opinion that 3 plating is the way I was taught & that neutrals within the switch box was an absolute no-no. Something I still behold, and the reason my first post on this thread stated that I 3 plate; the reason I assumed the inspector is in his 40's/50's was that, 2 plating started to creep in more in the 1980's, so therefore his dislike of neutrals within switch-boxes (to me) belied his age.

Now the punch-line: I am 2 years away from my 50th! (still act my shoe size though:eek:)

P.S. Nothing wrong with the under 40 sparky

P.P.S. Or the female sparky

P.P.P.S. Or dinosaur's:rolleyes:

Grovel over.

Im in the 3 plate gang ,

But had to put in 5amp sockets that can be switched , so used two plate.

I think 3 plate is bread into you like a habit , but 2 plate has many positives..

So in my opinion useing both is the right way to go

Unfortunately I am not familiar with that sexual practice/medical procedure:eek:

Is there a standard code for cable notches??

I have allways used 2 notches for the switch wire and tend to write on the cable any other info, just incase I am unwell and unable to finish.
