It is great experience, was a 12hr 1st day of work then travelling too and from Bradford to Leeds

I hope I get something too, time will tell
If you are worth having on the job, you are worth payment. Screw slave labour. Don't forget he is probably charging for your time. Makes him a bit of a c@@@ in my book.

Moospark raises a good point, about free labour, if you were stood behind the guy with your hands in your pockets purely watching and learning then that should be free. However if you are chasing walls, sinking sockets, lifting boards and running cables then you are grafting and should be paid accordingly, I know you are eager to learn the trade, but don't let people exploit that.

On the capping front, some get it and one don't, really depends on what the walls like to be honest, as it adds no protection there's not a great deal in having it.

I do all my own plastering and am very careful, personally I find it easier to just clip and skim over, not saying I always do that, but probably more often than not.

well i use channel as well..

but it never ceases to amaze me how many out there think that PVC/metal channel is `containment`...lol..

its purpose is primerally to prevent the plasterer from cutting into the cables with his trowel...and to keep cables in order of course...although clipping does/should acheave this as well....

achieve

Exactly, even if at a labourers rate.

He's a good lad, I think I'm getting something, it was mentioned over the phone when we first spoke, just I've not had anything yet and I don't feel comfortable asking only after 2 days work!!
He said he'd never see me out of pocket and so far I've traveled to Bradford from Leeds and back
And to over side of Sheffield and back to Leeds, used about 3/4 of a tank and then I've got Bradford on Monday so he should know its costing me but if I didn't I'd not be able to continue since it's too much ÂŁÂŁÂŁ for the travel
And im loving working with him

I think I just need to wait that's all

Oh I was grafting, was me the lucky one sent in the loft to cut the cables, was coughing like a f@cker because some was under the loft insulation or whatever it was in an old house, silly b0llocks here had a tshirt on, next time my arms will be covered ha, had to stop all 6'4 of me from falling through the ceiling, I came down filthy!!

I bet!! Generally do the loft work myself 'cos I'm 5'8 and ten stone wet, just faster.

Overalls (extra large) and a dust mask might help in the future, ask about them.
Don't ask about payment until after the first week, at least...might cause a bit of upset. I would imagine he'll sort you out, no problem.

Exactly, just doesn't feel right asking about any sort of payment after only 18.5 hours work

Oh trust me I learnt my lesson, I was up in the loft in combats, sore knees after so when we when to screwfix for parts I bought some heavy duty multi pockets trousers and a set of pads for the knees, sooo much better now!!

Yeah I was winding you up. Bloke here reckons he does 5+ rewires a week

Yeah GMES explained it to me, a 3 story in a day

I still think even if I was up to speed it would take 2 days for the 2 story we are doing, a day for each fix, but that would be the very quickest,

just can't see how it can be done in a day unless the guy doesn't sleep

Maybe he does them with another 3 or 4 lads/lasses
