Megger 1730

I know that testers have been done to death, but I'm about to buy a new MFT and have set my sights on the Megger 1730 as one which should last me a long time. Does anyone have any bad experiences of this tester or can give me any reason I should really avoid it and look elsewhere?

Its a good tester but the things ive found with it.... 1. Leads are hard to null and dont stay nulled for long 2. low current loop testing trips wylex RCDs and RCBOs. 3. you often get a 0.50ohm diffeance when testing at the same point using high and low current loop. whis i had brought a fluke

but test results would change when using differnt currents for the tests, maybe im wrong but it seeems feesible for this to happen...

i've found it to be a really good test apart from those few thing, the 2 lead auto start loop test is really good and the fact that it will save the highest reading is a great point to.

Dont bother with the fluke stuff, their multifunction range is rubbish gear

Not had any experience with the 1700 series from Megger but have used a Megger 1552 for the past 5 years and its been a great piece of kit

aim for the Megger 1500 series

i've had a Fluke 1561 for last few years , think if i got a fluke now it would be a 1564b i spose they've all got there faults though

Thanks for all the replies. I looked into the 1500 range but noticed they are listed as discontinued by many stockists so assumed the 1700's had replaced them.

(fluke 1654b or megger 1730)

aim for the Megger 1500 series

I would disagree & say the new 'B' range of Fluke MFT's is v. good (I have the 1653B) and that the new 1700 range of meggers have had nowt but bad press.

Been totally happy with my 1730. Like the Ra function. Is now a software update to switch between high and low loop testing without having to move the leads around. If you have a query - speak to Megger. They are very helpful.
