My last 'non Amd 3' CU Install.

Put this in today, I hope it doesn't burst into flames.:tongue3: Didn't have the time to faff about and get the cabling 'perfect' as I had so much to do today but I think it's ok. With the BG boards I generally 're number' the earth bar as to me it's illogical having the CPCs running in the opposite order of the neutrals,I'll miss the insulated CUs. Sorry about the

As Dave was good enough to post a pic up of his CU, I thought ill share one I done not so long ago.:hair:

Is this a new build mate? I thought consumer units were supposed to be a certain max height now for access and this looks to be above a door. Not questioning your install at all as I know I'll have this the wrong way round, just raising the question for my own learning.

You are correct about heights of accessories etc. It all falls under part M of the building regs access to and use of the building.

The customer wanted the CCU at these heights and after a word with building control they were happy for them to go at this height. This particular CCU is in a new build flat on the 3rd floor with no lift and just a staircase for access so I think building control probably took this in to account when saying its ok as a wheel chair user wouldn't really be buying/living in the flat due to access.

Looks just fine to me. Good for you for putting up a 'normal', perfectly acceptable piece of work. Can't understand why you've got the main bonding going into the last MCB though! :wink5:

Haha I see what you mean mate, it does look a bit like that !:laugh3: Found another of my little jobs from around 3-4 years ago, this was an old house undergoing total refurbishment, unfortunately the idiot builder plastered the wall where the CU is before the cables coming down from above were in place [a load coming up from floor level were in oval conduit due to exposed beams in that room and no wiring allowed 'on show'] but the owner was putting a cupboard there anyway. That was a nice old house to work on, right out in the wilds and most of the time I was there alone, a really tranquil place. :smiley2:

Yeah I do and originally there were, but then the customer wanted a supply to an outbuilding and security lighting interlinked all round the house so that took care of the spares.
The way I did it the lounge and kitchen are on seperate lighting circuits and so are the upstairs lights, there are also 3 RFCs, can't think of anything else they could need really.

"Did not have the time to faff about, too much on, think it will be ok" you are falling into the "that will do" category, not a good sign, every customer deserves the best, your reputation is worth more than anything, always give 100% it will pay off in the long term.

I can see how what I wrote could give that sort of impression , poor choice of wording from me perhaps, however I can assure you that I do NOT fall into that category, I meant I just didn't have the time to be ultra fussy with the aesthetics due to the customer pestering me to do a couple of other jobs while there , all terminations were checked and checked again for tightness, single conductors all doubled and the used cable entries on the top of the CU were all sealed with clear silicone to meet and in fact exceed the IP4X requirement. All circuits were also tested properly.
I always put 100% into my work and it does pay off, have work booked in right up to the end of March.

Was not meant as a negative comment to you but I see so much poor quality work these days, I am old school and your work had to be spot perfect, and to this day I still work to that guidance.
Only recently I seen plastic conduit installed on a staircase within a large shopping centre, it was shocking.
I wondered how any sparkie could actually walk away and think it was a good job done.

Simple observation here, but funny how it's the people who seem overly critical that I've never seen an install of their own posted anywhere.
