Hi all.

When upgrading a fuse box to a 17th ed. CU is it a legal requirement to get an isolation switch fitted, or can it be done live. Far from ideal I know, but the £90 price tag set by manweb puts a lot of customers off.

Thanks.

no even with henley blocks your still working live , these suppliers arent stupid , the reason we upgrade to 25mm is because demand ( bigger fuse boards drawing more power ) . this is why there changed we no they want to put 60 amp fuses is , but if you need 100 amp they will leave it in . you are paying for it .

not working live if you pull the DNO fuse.

i was gong to start a thread on this but this one was already started .hope you got 1000 volt gloves on . im sorry to say . any seal cutting is a no no . they are going mad about illegal tampering.you only have to ring suppliers and your then legal to work away .

right , thats it , enoughs enough.

to the OP - if you need strangers on the internet to spell out to you how to cut the power for a CU change , then clearly you shouldnt be working on your own.

to the gooner - your use of the written language is a pityful garbled mess.

because to fit isolaters in every property would cost a fortune , this is why we tell customers to ring then they install , its planning , if the house cu is on fire then you ring straightaway . oh biff thanks i think .

I'm in Wolves too.

no one gives a monkeys mate. About the seals. Least of all WPD.

to the OP - when I have had an isolator fitted by the supplier or DNO it was always free. A cup of tea, chinwag and a plate of biscuits can work wonders (or tunnocks tea cakes)

£30???? You're having a giraffe. Small enlcosure and a DP isolator... Lucky to break half an Ayrton Senna

a drop in the ocean compared to the monies they've had for standing charge over years.
