Discuss New house - does the CU comply to the current regs in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

O

Octopus

So I was in a new build today - signed off 3 months ago...

No surface trunking, all cables in walls and ceilings ..... the OCPD's for circuits 1 to 3 look wrong to me

Discuss!

There are very good [and not so good] tradesmen in all aspects of the trade.
It is a huge generalisation to suggest that all Sparks who work on new builds are 'muppets' and also insulting to those who do high quality installations.
Yes agree totally.

Well Murdock from the picture and the schedule of test results I would say the only circuit that should have been connected to the main switch on mcb is the garage supply if it was fed by swa in its entirety from the C/U to C/U. All other circuits should be rcbo/rcd protected. A lot of the consumer units I have come across have the mixed wiring label already fixed so Giving benefit of doubt he just left it. I’m in Dorset so will watch out for him.

they're not allmuppets. but on new builds it's common to have a lot of the work done by unqualified "mates" to keep labour costs down.
And a QS who signs off the EIC without even visiting the site (oh yes they do!).

It’s time the CPS regime Registered individual electricians and not a cover-all scheme that can include a whole company.

IMHO - if there really is 10mm swa into the metal CU that's probably the only circuit to qualify for high integrity position, pending what's been done in the shed. Rest of it will be "cables in walls" from CU, surely ?
@domsta72 - care to explain why you think this is dumb?
