Hello all. Went to a property to give an certificate, it was an old ccu so. I recommended to install a new 17th edition board. All installed but when it came to testing tried to take a zs on sockets using my fluke tester it was coming out to be error 5, which means 1 of the conductors is not connected. So done a ze on the main income still got error 5. The supply is a TN-S and is soldered on. The earth looks good well soldered on. So decided to convert it to a TT by putting an earth electrode. which we did today but however doing the ze on the main still showing error 4/5. thought it might be my test instrument but tested on different property and reading coming fine. i have been told it could be an neutral fault at the main incomon or with in the house. But however everything seems to be working fine. Unless its using the earth as a neutral but if that was the case the extraneous conductive parts would have become live. its a tricky and hard one anyone got any ideas thank you in advance

my first would be to try a different make of tester. have you done a voltage measurement L-N at the supply? if so, is it the same as L-E? and is there any voltage N-E?

The tester done seem to be a problem mate. Voltage has been done and was showing 230v between L-N at the supply. L-E + N-E no voltage

An error reading on your Fluke wouldn't be a good reason to completely reconfigure what may possibly have been a good system. Are you sure it's TN-C? You need to get some actual readings (without an 'E' in them) before you proceed.

0.32ohms its a pme supply. i also tried it on another TN-S supply 0.62ohms. I tried 3 different installations with my tester today

my friend you need to do more test live test ,try to test at the mains line to earth ,n/to line and line to earth,no need for earth electrode yet!

thats the thing why am i not getting any reading when voltage, polarity, continuity and insulation is fine?

Did you try a L-N impedance test?

So have you got an earth to the installation or not, wouldn't like to think the installation would be energised. Sorry just saw the bit where everything is working fine so it's been on and is probably dangerous.

What voltages are you getting L-N L-E and N-E?

The installation has been working for numerous amount of years all we did was a db upgrade. L-N 230v and L-E 0V and N-E 0V

You would treat it as a TT installation.
