Hello all. Went to a property to give an certificate, it was an old ccu so. I recommended to install a new 17th edition board. All installed but when it came to testing tried to take a zs on sockets using my fluke tester it was coming out to be error 5, which means 1 of the conductors is not connected. So done a ze on the main income still got error 5. The supply is a TN-S and is soldered on. The earth looks good well soldered on. So decided to convert it to a TT by putting an earth electrode. which we did today but however doing the ze on the main still showing error 4/5. thought it might be my test instrument but tested on different property and reading coming fine. i have been told it could be an neutral fault at the main incomon or with in the house. But however everything seems to be working fine. Unless its using the earth as a neutral but if that was the case the extraneous conductive parts would have become live. its a tricky and hard one anyone got any ideas thank you in advance

Dont quite get this....if you went to give a certificate..(EICR?)....how come the first thing you decided to do was replace the CU before even carrying out any tests?

Strikes me, after re-reading some of this thread, that an EICR was truned into a DB change without ANY tests being done and this has bitten the OP in the xrse.

I'm hoping he's at least been and proved/made the installation safe, the L-E test giving 0 volts was somewhat worrying and possibly dangerous for the occupants.

In the interests of safety I'd rather it were that the OP could return here without fear of abrasive comments if he's got any questions or uncertainty.

I agree with you to a point mate but this guy is out of his depth and needs to realise it.

The electrical supply company came out and tested it but said seems to be a fault down earth thats all they said and said we are running late on job so without further test converted it to a PME system and took reading came as 0.09ohms. Another happy client thank you for all your replies

I bet they didn't get a Zero reading when testing the Ze off the cable sheath before they converted though!!! ....lol!!
