No Paperwork For New Consumer Unit Installation

I'm so confused about this thread! what is all that blue tape? Surely not concealing joins in cables? Can you post a better picture of the meter cupboard?

Also did the installer give an invoice/receipt for this mess?

No invoice. ONLY paperwork is Merchant Terminal receipt for debit card payment. I doubt this would have been left too if he thought he could get away with keeping both copies.

I don't suppose that the "sparky" provided a written estimate or quote either?

Do those blue tape covered cables, go into the new CU?

Yes. Out of rats nest understairs cupboard, into other old pantry cupboard. I guess this gave him lots more room to work & he wouldn't have to look at the rats nest for too long!

I'm sorry but I think the home owner needs to accept most of the blame for the shambles... especially if they didn't get another person or 2 to quote!

I understand your point, but please remember the home owner is over 70. She is from a generation of trust - especially in professionals. They don't have the cynical mind of the following generations.

OP, I think you might need to think on how you wish to proceed here. On the face of it, it seems your mother has been charged quite a lot for this CU replacement. That said, by most on here, we can only comment on what you tell us. I would wait until you receive your EIC. I would then ask for a proper written receipt for the work done. You then will have to consider how confident you are about the work that has been carried out.

If your mum knows you are in the trade why didn't she get you involved?
