Hi, please can someone advise. I have completed the domestic installers course which was great but it did not cover outside lighting. I would like to install an outside light in my garden and due to the position I would have to bury the cable underground. There are no blanks in the DB and would really like some advice
Thanks in advance

Go to college, get on an apprenticeship scheme, spent 3, 4 or 5 years gaining the required knowledge and getting the neccessary experience. Failing that, at the very least phone around and get some work as a mate for a competent and local domestic electrician and spend a few years learning from him. Then and only then you should be competent to carry out the work you are asking questions about.

This is really really really basic stuff that if you have to ask questions about then you shouldn't be carrying out the work. For now, I recommend contacting a qualified electrician and have him carry out, test and then certify the work.

If you would like to PM and have me (or any other decent spark on here) do the job for you over the internet we can discuss charges for our time and expertise then.

Thank you shakeout
All circuits are covered by RCD

Pencilpusher
Earthing arrangement is TNS
Bonding - I could link back to MET
RCD protection already in place on existing circuit.
I have terminated SWA before

If they are on an RCD and you are confident and can test it and certify it properly then there is nothing wrong with coming off a socket and fusing ity down.
I personally have seen a few groundlights and wall lights get moisture inside and have tripped the RCD.

Yeah. All circuits are bonded. it is late!
christ kid..your makin a --- of yoursen...
go away and look up earthin & bonding in the BGB...and the roles they play.....
as any metal enclosures will form part of the electrical installation we dont bond them....
we bond extranoius...and for different reasons than why we earth exposed conductive parts....is that enough for you?
as you`v been told....either crack on (which means you are competant)....or get someone in (which means you aint competant)...
oh, sorry...i`v just read he is using an RCD.....should be OK then whatever the weather...lol....
