Morning all. I Installed an electric pizza oven late last night and found that when it gets to a certain temperature it trips the RCD. its on a 63amp/30mA RCD and a 20 amp MCB. not sure what temp it gets to but it was on for about 5 mins then tripped. Question is could it be that i need to put a 100mA trip current RCD in or is it what I thought a there is a problem with the oven / heating element ??

Rating of the oven is 3.6Kw

Don't really want to go fork out for a less sensitive RCD when it wont do the job

I tried a kettle on a different circuit that the RCD supplies and that was all ok

If it's second hand,, it's faulty,, that's why it was sold.

If it's new it's faulty, just because it's new doesn't mean it can't be faulty, get the customer to contact the supplier.

The clue to the above is the RCD is tripping.

There's an outside chance the RCD is faulty if that's new.

My money is on an element as previous poster.

If it's new it may just be that the elements got damp internally. We make our own elements up and probably 1 in 5 fails an insulation test until either it's been run for a while (up to 30 mins) or it's been baked in an oven. The white insulating powder that's packed inside the element tube is prone to absorbing moisture (hygroscopic). If it's an old oven you can check the ends of the element tube for debris and carbon deposits, clean if necessary.

Beat me to it lol.

JESUS CHRIST ON A CRUTCH!!!!!
Why the hell do you think that "upgrading" the RCD will solve your problem? Do the owner of this establishment a favour, call him now and tell him you are clueless and that he or she should engage a properly qualified electrician who knows his trade.
I sincerely hope that this thread is a wind up but I suspect not.

Trev I'm finding it difficult to get to the meaning of your post.
All this diplomatic beating round the bush nonsense makes it difficult to know what you are thinking. :p
