Print the thread off and go speak to their solicitor, and accuse him of gross negligence.
He's quoting form a point of little or no knowledge which has a material affect on the sale of your property.

To be fair lads there is a chance that the socket has been screwed to the skirting and there is no backbox, just a hole. Have seen it before.

tell the solicitor it's fixed there to minimise volt drop.

The buyers solicitors have said....."There is a plug socket which has been attached to the wooden skirting board. This is against regulations and a fire risk. Please arrange for this to be corrected."

Ask them to specify the regulation to which they are referring, every regulation has its own unique number.
The current wiring regulations are BS7671:2008 with amendment 3 of 2015.

What they have identified is no 'against regulations' nor does it present any increased fire risk compared to any other socket outlet.

Unfortunately not. The current edition is amendment 3 (yellow cover) and the IET take a dim view of people handing out free copies (its about £80)
