How much current will a 1.5 ring take (50mtrs long)

Can it take more current as its a ring ?

Its not mine.

I just looked at house a chap did (cowboy) and he put in a 1.5 mm ring for 8 sockets (yeh i know)

So as he running a plasma etc and the current does exceed 1.5kw i need to split the ring into 2 radials (1 for the tv and 1 for the other sockets.

The tv and bits pull 1.2kw
The other ie pc etc pull 500w

So to keep him happy can i split this then re do the works when he can pay for it.

wHAT A MESS GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR lol

Well, that's a bizzare way of doing it. The trouble is, if you bodge it, the guy will assume it to be safe. He will never get the job done properly.

Realistically, 1.5mm is sufficient for a socket ring with a 32A Breaker (depending on installation method)..... AND providing the ring is not broken.

Break the ring though, and trouble will follow. You cannot assume 1.5kw for his telly etc.... He may well plug in a few 3kw heaters during the winter..

My advice is to throw in a 2.5mm ring, or just leave the job to someone else!

Yeh i know hmmmmmmmm

Just looked at the calc etc so i think if i put his tv etc on 1 radial and his pc on a other it will take the load.

FFs Cowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwabunga time.

When i test i will have to make a note etc

If i use 16 amp breakers it should be ok for now so if he does overload any radial it will trip Hmmmmmmmmm FINGERS CROSSED.

What ya think chaps ?

His tv is 5 mrs from dis board.,

So that radial will take at least 3kw

His other radial will be at least 50mts so will take at least 1.5 kw

How did you arrive at that conclusion then Stuey???, only asking because my thoughts all end up at a 20A...:)

Ffs grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

LOL

Think i will do as said for now and tell him it has to be done within a week or so or nic will shut it off blah blah

Look at it this way, he obviously penny pinched by bodging it himself. Once you walk away and say it will be ok for now, that's his signal to say all is fine because the sparks said it was. He should have had the job done properly in the first place.
