Rip off or what

So I have got a young lad on work experience with Darrel at the minute and I'm that impressed with him so far that I am seriously thinking of offering him an apprenticeship which is what he wants.

Anyway back to the story he asked me what I would charge to test his Gran's house it is a 1 bed bungalow with a 3036 Board with 4 circuits, he has asked me because she's had a quote from her insurance company and wants to compare prices. Now I have said I will do it for free for him for 3 reasons

1= it will be good experience for Him and He can say he played part in it to make his nan proud.
2= it won't take long if the 3 of us jump on it.
3= I just think it's a nice thing to do with her being an old lady.

Now to the point of the title of the thread, what do you think would be a fair price from the insurance company for this job, I will let you all have a guess
and see who gets closest.

I don't understand this phrase "fair price from the insurance company".

It's a collection of words that don't normally fit together.

At a cost of £980 what's the rewire costs going to be,, £6000?

I won't worry about my estimates for a builder now. £980 would be the upfront price for EICRs for the property for 90 years.

It's only 4 circuits! I would charge £100 or £150 if it was in London.

That's nearly £250 per circuit. You can bet that isn't going straight in the back pocket of the guy doing it though, he's probably on about £10/hr, rushing around trying to do 6 EICRs a day to pay for some pencil pusher to keep calling him up telling him to work faster.

I won't be applying for any jobs like that, but big companies ripping people off gives tradesmen a reputation for being unaffordable.
