So I have got a young lad on work experience with Darrel at the minute and I'm that impressed with him so far that I am seriously thinking of offering him an apprenticeship which is what he wants.

Anyway back to the story he asked me what I would charge to test his Gran's house it is a 1 bed bungalow with a 3036 Board with 4 circuits, he has asked me because she's had a quote from her insurance company and wants to compare prices. Now I have said I will do it for free for him for 3 reasons

1= it will be good experience for Him and He can say he played part in it to make his nan proud.
2= it won't take long if the 3 of us jump on it.
3= I just think it's a nice thing to do with her being an old lady.

Now to the point of the title of the thread, what do you think would be a fair price from the insurance company for this job, I will let you all have a guess
and see who gets closest.

Hang on there may be 50+50 DSSOs on two of the ccts and 30 lighting points on each of the other two ccts. Even with a low sample rate that's still quite a few to cover. I think the price is about right. The six week hols will be here before you know it, and they ain't getting any cheaper if you wanna go away!

Get the laddy on it with you and make nan proud!!

I'd certainly be asking this insurance company for an overall breakdown of costings regarding this 980 quid EICR.

Then i'd produce a copy of a EICR for the property conducted by a fully qualified electrician with a copy of the invoice attached, and ask for an explanation for their costings!! ...lol!!

Makes you wonder what the actual policy cover for this property is going to be?? ....

Why whats that got to do with things? They have provided a quote nothing else. Its up to the customer whether they accept it or not.
How is she supposed to know she's being ripped off? She might think that's how much it's supposed to cost. The price is from her insurance company, not some scruffy oik in a clapped out old white transit with pasty wrappers on the dashboard.

When I do my grocery shopping I don't pay too much attention to the prices, I just grab what I need and shove it in the basket. I trust Asda are charging a fair price for it and not taking the line of "yes it's way overpriced, but you don't have to buy it from here".

So no one on here has ever overpriced a job on purpose? People should be aware that several quotes should be sought before giving someone the go-ahead.
That's no excuse for her insurance company to rip her off. If she had approached several local electricians and one of them had said he was busy then given a price of ÂŁ300 after being asked to quote anyway then that is one thing, but her insurance company should have several electricians they can use, and they should be getting the estimates and finding a good price.

Bear in mind that this is from HER insurance company, you can't honestly expect her to deviate from that. Many unscrupulous companies target old ladies knowing full well they can quite easily put the frighteners on em.
