Sick of 5WWs? Sick of scam schemes? Sick of laughable training providers?

We as fully qualified electricians deserve better. The public deserve better. Get on here, start hitting the like button, share share share and spead the word guys!!!

We are boycotting the schemes, they can shove their £500 assessment fees where the sun don't shine! We are the industry, not them, so there's absolutely no need to let these parasitic organisations run around acting on our behalf!

Save our trade!!!

The core qualification; would this be a demonstration of knowledge soley of theory, or of practical as well? if practical as well, would we need to do a NVQ3? The reason I ask is that I would love to be able to prove my electrical theory and gain a recognised qualification for it, but am loathe to spend thousands to a private training provider to do a course to learn what I already might know.

In my time there was a fair bit of practical linked to the C&G's of the time, and there wasn't any quick or fast track courses so everyone that wanted to be an electrician had to go down the apprentice or indentured apprentice route so you gained those skills and experience as you went through your time. In other words there was no need for NVQ's. When the majority of electricians came out of there time in those days, they were qualified to a level both in theory and practical skills, to enter any of the electrical sectors. ...One of the reasons for Grandfather rights on the JIB grading.

These days it's a completely different ball game, ...eg, many of the students not being employed in the industry while training, apprenticed to a company that only does domestic, the list goes on and on. But the bottom line is, that students don't achieve anywhere near the amount of practical skills and experience that a time served electrician should really be having under their belt. Hence you now have these NVQ's to give some indication of proof, that you have achieved (at least on paper) those skills/experience...

Well I love this thread, so much so, I pressed the like button for most of the first page replies. Now this may open a can of worms for me but EF it. My scam membership ran out in November last year. I did not renew it. I have been honest and open with my customers, old and new and told them that it does not make my work any less "crappy" than it already is..lol. The bottom line is, not one customer has refused my work because I ain't with a scam. Now if being in a particular scam gains you more work then fine, its cheaper than advertising but for me, it didn't do squat!
Good on ya mr Skelton.

There are guys here who need to ask questions about how to wire an emergency light and I suspect they are scam members, if so who cares, the whole system is total balls and every day I see even more ridiculous questions, One guy just admitted to getting an electric shock whilst testing a ring main, I can bearly believe what I am reading so if your a spark then crack on Cocker.

[h=1]What is SparkSafe[/h] [h=3]SparkSafe is…[/h]
  • A charitable and social enterprise
  • Established for the benefit of the industry – workers, employers and customers
  • Supported and endorsed by industry partners
  • Linked to the public procurement of construction contracts
  • A system designed to differentiate and distinguish the competency of electrical construction workers
[h=3]SparkSafe is not…[/h]
  • A static register
  • A self certification scheme
  • A profit & loss organisation
  • For the few, the elite or the large contractor
  • Is not an alternative Health & Safety card
  • Is not a JIB Card

Being honest Risteard im not sure i see the point in this sparksafe, considering opening that link you sent was the first time i've ever heard of it and i read connections and ECA today alot so it can't be that supported and endorsed by industry partners.

My PC security software said the site certificate was wrong so did not proceed.

I agree with this thread but I mentioned something like this a few month ago and like typical Brits we'd rather just sit by and let it all happen! Like the most of you I work day in day out on installations worth hundreds of thousands of pounds and your telling me that I can't install a new security light for a friend! Country is crazy! By the way I have some excellent photos that could be put to use on the Facebook page and these would be from an apprentice trained Electrician. It is not just the Electrical Trainee's who are installing dangerous systems.

Bump.

Everyone remember this?

I've let it go on the back burner while DCLG issued forth their fudge which I've been thinking about for a bit but UKS's horror story has made me realise that we need to kick this back into gear. I've been in touch with him to ask him if he'll post the story up on the FB page with all the photos.

If we handle this right then this could be the straw which breaks the camel's back but it's pointless sitting there thinking that someone else will do it or I can't be bothered because nothing will change. Well nothing will change unless we make it change.

I want everyone who comes across a horror story by a r£gulatory body registered person, no matter whether they're short course or time served to take pics and post it up there so the world can see what these parasites are doing to OUR trade.

If anyone wants to help or has any suggestions please feel free to get in touch, some of you have my mobile number I'm happy for it to be passed around (as long as it's not to an axe murderer)
