Individuals who already have a competency-based qualification recognised by the EAS Management Committee will not have to take the new qualification if they are applying to become a new Qualified Supervisor after 1st January 2012.

just found this from this site

Electrical Qualifications :: View topic - QS qualifications update would have thought any of us older lads that got did do apprenticeships and in my case the A. B C qualifications and have kept up to date with the level 3 qualifications such as 2391-10 and the 2382 should be OK, as the JIB told me in May.

so is it an actual Nvq3 required by anyone joining a scheme from 2012 (as you would be your own qs if one man band) if so then about time (exception of older sparks who shouldnt have to do it - 2360 etc)
also if so are the existing 2330 level 3 still going to be required before you can take the nvq3?
if it pans out this way then it can only be a good thing although i doubt it very much :)

A lot of guys on here could easily check there qualifications by mapping themselves with the IET professional registration requirements. Most would attain TechEng, IEng or CEng. Then map this to the C&G Lcientiateship maps to NVQ levels. Just a thought.

I have no idea what you mean good sir !
Seriously , how would you go about that ?

I have yet to see any confirmation from either the IET, NICEIC, NAPIT,ECA OR ELECSA.

Just the same article banded round via e-mails and forums. Its rubbish

In one of my earlier posts , i say that napit sent out a email on fri .
If you pm your email , i will try to forward it to you .

I have it from the Napit website.

From 1st January 2012, for the first time, a level of technical competence equivalent to level 3 NVQ competences is to be the minimum requirement for all new applications for Qualified Supervisors.

Further on it also reads about having an off site assessment....Whatever that is.

Now it is a case of finding out what is the equivalent to an NVQ3 in the eyes of Napit. There must be one because they have mentioned equivalent.

Also like the 2391 was made statutory by Napit. I have no hesitation that Napit with offer an internal NVQ3NA just as they made the internal 2391NA

I feel the regulating bodies should give some thought to any e.mails they put out and make things clear.
If the longer served qualifications such as the 236 part B or C are NVQ equivelant then they should give a clear indication that this is so, along with any other NVQ3 equivelant qualifications. I think its a good idea, but they sould'nt be stamping out the very electricians they are trying to indorse ie qualified and competant by virtue of quals and experiance.

They won't give the qualifications equivalents out because that limits their custom.

Look at a thread I just started.

An NVQ3 for domestic Installations is coming out in January 2012.

Trouble is i fear, is that most of these organisations are being administered day to day by staff that are too young to know of the older qualifications, let alone know what's equivalent to what....

Don't worry just do the Domestic NVQ3 coming into force in January. :hurray:

Don't need to, already a qualifying supervisor. :hurray:

Seriously though, we sparkies always seem to be on the recieving end of the Ripp Off courses. Ok so what does this NVQ3 course involve, how much do I have to pay, and do they do a 60 minute version for twice the price.

Same here already a QS.

They do a 5 day CURRENT NVQ3 course over at trade skills for 650 plus vat! Must be working in the industry for minimum of 2 years. Thats the only criteria!

Elecalserve are you just taking the pee out of everybody including me. IMO these guys are driving up(EAS) standards because I always thought the more people know about their jobs, theoretically, voctionally, practically, intellectually.......... a tell you what in any way...............if they can demonstrate it they and all of us are on a winner.
What u miss is the point that, and I have also ommitted this point, that the 2391 does not overlap completely the other modules that apprentice trained elecs have undergone. I will say I need to investigate what these modules are.....but they have served me well so that I can make njudgements on the conditions of electrical systems
