Socket-outlets need to be RCD protected unless they are for a specific item of equipment.
I'm not picking a fight here lads but I'm going by the regs (although in my previous post I said disregard them).
OSG page 22. Cables installed on the surface do not require rcd protection.
Rcd's may be omitted for:- ......... or be a depth of 50mm in a wall or partition without metal parts.
Otherwise if I was the op I would have a stand alone rcd for the ring in question.
Agreed the cables might not require RCD protection.
However the socket will, unless it is not for general use by ordinary persons.
Ah but can we be sure that she won't allow an untrained person to use the socket without supervision?
