I have tried various detectors and have found that some are good at only one of their supposed multiple functions. I understand the cheaper ones are cheap for a reason, but I don't want to splash out on an expensive one unless I know its going to be good at the job. Can anyone recommend a make/model?

Thanks

Andybias

I think they are all pretty rubbish no matter what, sorry to say, I have not found one that has any real degree of accuracy, but I am not prepared to spend fortunes for it when one can drill small holes to check or insert a camera.

If it's an armoured cable you'll be better off borrowing a metal detector.

Also good for cutting strands of cable armour, although I try to restrict their use to copper.

Absolutely correct they hold water, shrouds are totally unnecessary. 20s is 24mm spanner, 20 large is 30mm spanner.

I'm not entirely certain as it's very tough, but brittle when cold.
