I recently put a small 4 way db in a out building fed via a 6mm swa from the house db and i used the job as my annual inspection for napit the inspector said i couldnt use the earth from the house to supply this board without permission from the dno and would have to put in a earth rod even though it had a perfect ze, is this bs or have i missed something?

I'm not sure why you would want to leave a nice earth at the house? What are the reasons for not extending it?

Sorry I couldn't resist . But if there was extraneous conductive parts to the outhouse or a metal framed building it would require a rod.

I thought you could extend the earth to out buildings and if any extraneous conductive parts bond back to met in 10mm or use 10mm swa

which would fall under ESQCR , which is outside the remit of bs7671 and the NIC assessor.
you could say hes technically wrong.........
