Just thought id put this one up for all those faults we find.
heres one to kick it off !
Domestic RCD tripped and wouldnt reset cause was a blown low energy light bulb.:D

was installing a new cooker circuit yesterday, fitted all to regs, switched power on, bang, nearly fell of the ladder. couldnt figure out what i done wrong, checked board, kitchen ring fuse blown and main service fuse. discovered home owner took unused socket off below work top and just twisted all conductors together. funny cuz just b4 i put power on i said to him wait 4 d bang

my daughter moved in to a new build house a few weeks ago new cooker installed this morning .. no electric to cooker point what to ever i opened cooker feed no cables so i went to cooker switch no cable .. went to cu opened it to see if any cable for cooker radial NO CABLE what so ever for cooker but 40A mcb there thay are 2 other mcb without cable to them as well.. hmm

That'll teach you to carry out dead tests before powering up.:mad:

I'm only starting out and so not really dealt with much but my Uncle's house scares me.

For a start it's 2 banks of 4x BS 3036 Re-wireables and no RCD protection also these fuseboard units aren't very well installed either - it's very messy. I'd asked him when it'd been last inspected and tested but he was like "erm... does it have to be?" (I'm trying to get him to get his house rewired)

But I had to recently sort out a socket on the ring - it was in my cousin's bedroom - for a start it's too low and is installed through the skirting, but the socket was surface mounted on a patress box except my cousin kept moving her bed and knocking the socket off the wall. It then fully broke and it was left with the socket hanging out of the wall onto the floor, fully exposed and live.

It's been sunk into the wall now with a metal back box and sealed up nicely.

IIRC the whole 3 storey house only has 1 30amp ring - no separation for each floor or anything.

Not good.

i don't really know i'm maybe where i shouldn't to asks that but me i'm looking for an advice to find a job . An electrician mate one believing my qualification after UK NARIC QUALIFICATION TRANSLATION
