To do 2391 or not

J

jassyo06

Hi i am seriously contemplating doing the 2391 inspection and testing course i have just finished doing the 2330 course have got a distinction in both 302 and 303 written exams and a final distinction-distinction for level 3 which has given me a boost in the confidence department to take on the 2391 exam,i have been in the trade for a few decades so i am not some guy jumping on to a different carreer;).

My thoughts are since all of this is still fresh in my head ie the 2330 course work i thinking give a go and get it all done:d
what i want to know is surely 2391 cant be more difficult than the level 3 exams and also what benefits does 2391 give you,the exam is in june the 8th so i have almost 3 months of study to get things going.

My feelings are that just having 2330 is not enough in this job market and surely having 2391 would more desirable to employers and it would also increase your earning potential which is the most important thing to me as i have been unemployed for the last 8 months and still have no signs of a job.opinions please

Also the course is £595 with olci with whom i done 2330(better the devil you know) is my thoughts.i am also contemplating hiring a mft for a month or 2 to do as much testing as i can,its just a idea

IMO I think you would be silly not to do it. With so many electricians out of work and with so few jobs availalbe the 2391-10 qualification seems to be a must now.

I can't comment on the comparision between the last qualifications you did and the 2391-10, but I can say that it is a difficult course, and requires a good knowledge of the BS 7671-2008, GN 3, and the GS 38 to pass it. It is hard but not impossible it just takes hard work and a little study, which is what you are use to.

Go for it, it will help you get your approved JIB grade as well.

I think you should go for it.

It's another string to your bow & you can't have too many of them !!

Can you get any help with your course / assessment fees? Some Local Authorities can help you with this. Mine paid for my 2391, and an organisation called A4E paid for my current ACS (Gas qualification)

Makes sense to me! I'd go for it if I were as confident as you / had that experience...

Edit: where did you do that? London? I bet Dave will be pleased with you!
no i done the course up in scotland mate at their livingston
workshop, dougie is his name i spoke to him last friday and he mentioned the 2391 which seems to have started this 2391 subliminary
in my head.

thanks to all you gents for the encouragement being 8 months unemployed does seriously drain your confidence

595 is well steep. I did it at night school over 10 weeks (way it was meant to be done so it has time to soak in...). £260 all in. And I passed as a bonus! Don't pay £600 quid u r just lining sime middlemans pockets. Sign up at a local college :-)

yes thanks i will look in to this straight after this post is written

any job ive seen advertised now asks for 2391, seems guys without it arent getting a look in, suppose it makes sense for a company to hire a person with more qaulifications for the basic rate, more work less pay in there eyes. considering doin the course aswell anyone know where i could do this in the lanarkshire/glasgow area?

i for 1 will not be working for peanuts when i get the 2391 Thomo i have just phoned motherwell technical college and there 2391 course starts in august its a night school course and its £600 the same as olci.............?????so whats the best road to go down as they are the same price decisions, decisions but i think the tutor in a classroom could be that bit easier, where are you from Thomo

from wishaw jassy about 5 mins from motherwell thats the course i was looking for aswell but it was no longer listed on the motherwell college website so didnt know if they still did it, also wondering if the ILA scotland fund would help towards costs every adult gets £200 towards any training or courses they want to do might be worth looking into, where are you from jassy?

Go for it I did 2391 after I had finished 2330 most of the stuff you learn from 2330 level3 is relevant only difference is 2391 is closed book exam so no books. Also 2391 theory is slightly harder but what you learned from level 3 will give you a heads up and most of what you learned will be still fresh in your head. Practical is pretty much similar testing techniques but on 3 phase.

i am from hamilton mate but staying in sunny cumbernauld at the moment the 2391 is on there new course prospectus come april but i am in 2 minds wether to do it sooner as the olci course has only 3 places left in june up in livingston so i was told today but i will make my mind up come the 24th of march when i go back to to the 17th edition up date

yes thats what i thought 2391 being far more in depth than level 3 and to be honest i only used my regs book twice in the 302 exam and never even used it for 303 because the exam i got never required it as it was all on the job/course work questions,3 phase i can do as mostly all my work has been commercial/industrial,i've never used pvc t&e till i signed up for the 2330 course...he,he
