We're all doomed!!!

millwall ken

Hi all,
I had a drink (alright then a skinny latte) this afternoon with a pal of mine. He happens to work at Bromley Job Centre - for those of you who don't know; Bromley is the largest borough within London. Anyway, my mate is a 'customer advisor' and we were generally discussing the state of the economy and how things are looking for the future, I was shocked when he then told me that the word 'electrician' is one of the top five keywords that customers use on the Job Centre website. Doesn't bode well does it? I wish that I'd become an MP now.

Every man who has ever wired a plug thinks they can do electrics it seems at the moment. Everybody is 'part P qualified'; every potential customer has a 'friend' up the road that can do the job for £3.50. Builders, chippies, kitchen fitters can do electrics because they're Part P but if you're a time served electrician without the 'P' you can't do the work.... I'm going to become a postman, couple years experience and you're on £22K, couple of sparky jobs on the side here and there you'll be laughing.

They get paid that much!!!!!! I can't believe it. Then again if you get that posties job good luck, the goverment and whoever takes of the postal service is looking to hammer them too.

not round here they dont, just saw an ad looking for ex royal mail posties with at least 3 years experience to work contracts for royal mail £5.93 an hour. not sure where the £22,000 comes from, I know a few posties and their basic is nowhere near that

never mind, its a good job the working and child tax credits are around! My house looses that this year and I suspect a whole lot more will lose it too.

I'm registered with a couple of agencies but electrical work offerings are rare. When they do phone its for an electricians mate at £6/hour... I'm lucky in that i've found some housing association work now which fingers crossed will continue for a good while. You could try Hays, Manpower. What area you in SBrown?

Nottingham. I am employed but I am looking to build up domestic and commercial experience to add to my industrial experience. Things were not bad before christmas but I wonder what it'll be like now.

me and the missis looking into moving abroad when she gets her nursing degree were saving like mad i feel sorry for our kids theyl have to have degrees to clean bogs at kfc at this rate in 20 years time

My prob is there is work out there for electricians in my area howether because nvq3 is required whilst being employed I have no chance, I therefore either have to pay for a domestic scheme and become my own boss (as any one can do with these short courses advertised these days) or offer myself to work for free as many are doing.
I have 2360/1/2 2391 and enjoy working industrial bending galv conduit, trunking , swa , basket, tray.
my girlfreind wants me to give up and start a woodworking course as this does not require a nvq3 yet.
I refuse to give in now but I don't no how long her patience will last.

Hang on a rant comming

How can this new government let these so called bodies ask for a unlimited amount of monney on a unlimited amount of courses under the banner of health and safety to the public, but then let any tom dick or harry do domestic instalation with minimal tuition.
As long as they pay some organisation a hefty fee every year.

I beleive and agree with some sort of organisation checking on competency of electricians but i believe someone either got paid alot of monney to alow these "unions" to gain this power or monney is pipped back.
